Position Purpose
Work with plant management and personnel daily to help improve plant safety, quality, throughput and reduce costs through research, design, development and installation of devices and systems.
Principle Accountabilities
- Responsible for safe work habits and ensuring that all equipment operates in a safe manner.
- Responsible for and manage plant control systems.
- Responsible for PLC support programming, troubleshooting, calibration, project implementation and network integration.
- Keep the automated industrial control systems current.
- Process data analysis.
- Lead improvement teams.
- Maintain machine documentation and drawings.
- Write technical procedures.
- Electrical design.
- Provide technical support when equipment fails or is producing poorly.
- Occasionally support the maintenance staff during large repairs or shutdowns.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of industrial control systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's).
- Install, diagnose, and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of industrial machinery and equipment.
- Effectively maintain programming, hardware networking and communication; troubleshoot and determine causes of failure and perform corrective actions; and oversee full industrial control system project implementation on both hardware and software problems.
- Support predictive and preventative maintenance program.
- Interface with and troubleshoot the following motor control equipment properly and safely: motor starters, relays, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), Servo motors and controls.
- Interface with and troubleshoot Allen Bradley and other plant PLC's including connecting to the PLC, reading ladder logic, programming, diagnosing hardware and software problems.
- Direct interface with facility operators and outside contractors/vendors.
- Manage contractors/vendors on projects throughout the facility to ensure the highest quality and safety standards.
- Related tasks as requested by supervisor.
Essential Skills and Experience
- BS degree in Industrial Control and Instrumentation Technology, Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology, similar degree, or 10 years of verifiable working experience
- Knowledge and ability to make modifications to PLC/RTU/HMI hardware/software platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Fisher ROC, & Modicon
- Knowledge and ability to install, test, calibrate, and tune instrumentation from Rosemont, E&H, etc.
- Knowledge of final control elements such as motorized valves and other actuators
- Knowledge of measurement systems from Emerson and ABB
- Knowledge of industrial networking used to connect control system components and instrumentation
- Experience with electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels and associated NEC
- Experience with test equipment from Hart 475, Hand Pumps, RTD Calibrators, Thermocouple Calibrators, etc.
- Microsoft Office experience.
