Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Description:
This job can be a popular option for ICU nurses that struggle to find an ICU spot but are willing to work PCU (I know there are fewer ICU opportunities) – and our PCU actually pays more than ICU does due to market rates!
Unit Information:
• Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients.
• High acuity of PCU and ICU. Candidates with PCU/ICU experience preferred. May float to Med/Surg.
Schedule:
• No set schedule, no set weekends, no block schedule.
• Facility determines the complete schedule, with the possibility of working every weekend. Must be flexible.
• Maximum 7 straight days off.
• 14-week contract required if taking 7 days off.
Patient Diagnoses:
• Solid Tumor
• Orthopedic Oncology
• Thoracic Oncology
Special Procedures/Unit Details:
•18J is a 36 bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care.
-Pediatric patients are cared for on this unit but are extremely rare and would likely be cared for by perm staff. Pediatric experience is NOT required to be agency RN here.
Required: High acuity PCU patient experience
-Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
Special Equipment:
• B450 monitors Client telemetry system.
• Bladder Scanner.
• Alaris pumps.
• Stryker beds.
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation
• PCA Pumps
Requirements:
• 2 years of oncology experience preferred.
• Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS & NIH
• Ratio: 1:4-5 Med Surg Telemetry
• Ratio: 1:3 PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.
• Previous travel experience preferred.
Skills Required:
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Use of rapid response teams
• Feeding tube care and management
• Accessing Ports
• Blood Product Administration
• Central line care/management
• Peripheral Line Care/Management
• PICC line management
• Starting IVs
• Heparin Protocols
• Manage Cardia drips- no titration
• PCA
• Titrate Cardiac drips
• Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac
• External CPAP/BIPAP
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Interpretation of ABGs
• Nasal Cannula
• Tracheostomy Management
Skills Preferred:
• Management of dysrhythmias
• IV insulin protocols
• Titration of Insulin drips
• Phlebotomy
• Chemotherapy Administration
• Monitoring Chemotherapy
• Wound Care/Wound Vac
• Arterial line management
• Surgical drains
• Non-invasive airway management
