Immediate contract opportunity with direct client in New York City.
The focus of this job is to support peacekeeping operations to monitor and analyze mis- and disinformation and other harmful information, to inform better responses.
Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the ICT Project Support will be responsible for the following duties:
• Conduct monitoring and analysis of data from social and other media to identify trends and patterns in harmful information.
• Produce regular reports on the digital information environment related to specific peacekeeping missions, as well as other ad hoc research products.
• Identify gaps in existing ICT capabilities and propose enhancements to better equip missions to detect and counter mis/disinformation, with a focus on protecting vulnerable groups.
• Propose methodologies for the use of ICT capabilities by field missions.
• Develop requirements and specifications for new ICT tools and systems to bolster missions' ability to track and respond to mis/disinformation in the short-term and long-term.
• Assist in testing and quality assurance of new ICT solutions prior to deployment, as well as piloting and roll-out of these tools to missions.
• Prepare briefing notes, background papers, training materials, and presentations related to ICT tools to identify mis/dis/misinformation, and hate speech.
• Participate in field missions to provide technical guidance, troubleshoot issues, and gather requirements to enhance the ICT tools based on mission needs.
Results Expected:
• Regular analytical reports on the digital information environment related to specific peacekeeping missions and ad hoc research products provided to the missions.
• Gaps in current capabilities identified, and practical enhancements proposed and implemented to strengthen missions' resilience against mis/disinformation.
• Well-scoped requirements allowing for the development of fit-for-purpose ICT tools to counter mis/disinformation in both the immediate and long term.
• Clear, comprehensive documentation and training materials produced to enable mission staff to utilize the ICT tools effectively.
• Constructive contributions to meetings, outreach, and field missions to promote the project and gather input to improve the tools iteratively.

Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to mis/dis/malinformation and hate speech. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to conduct data collection using various methods. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Qualifications:
Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in research, policy development and/or political affairs. Experience working on researching mis- and disinformation, hate speech, or related area is required. Strong research and analytics skills, particularly related to digital media. Good knowledge of the UN peace operations and an understanding of the communication landscape in mission settings.
