About the Job
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide specialized MQ middleware support specific to the IBM i (f.k.a.- AS/400, iSeries) environment including:
(i) Monitor throughput and message traffic for performance and resource availability threshold breaches;
(ii) Startup, shutdown, create, remove, purge and recover queues as necessary;
(iii) Design and implement efficient queue manager configurations that provide restart capabilities, message
delivery, and high availability failover support;
(iv) Monitor and tune transaction load balancing across queue management;
(v) Troubleshoot any issues that may arise in the IBM i environment; and
(vi) Perform software installation and patching in the IBM i environment.

(v) Troubleshoot any issues that may arise in the IBM i environment; and
(vi) Perform software installation and patching in the IBM i environment.
- Install, configure, and upgrade MQ software on IBM i systems. Set up and configure queue managers, channels, listeners, and other MQ objects based on organizational requirements.
- Implement new changes and monitor MQ queues, MQ log files, Dead letter queues, MQ client applications and MQclient configurations.
- Implement Channel level security like using SSL for MQ channels, communications. Stop/start of MQ managers, channels, Listeners, Namelist, Services, Processes and other MQ objects.
- Understanding of MQ errors and fixing the same. Working knowledge on How to put and get messages in MQ queues.
- Understanding on how to set permissions, refresh security and taking dump of MQ messages on IBM i.
- System Administration: Perform day-to-day administration tasks such as managing queue managers, channels, listeners, and other MQ objects on IBM i.
Security and Access Control: Implement security measures to protect the WebSphere MQ infrastructure on IBM i. Configure authentication, authorization, SSL certificates, and other security settings.
Integration and Connectivity: Collaborate with application developers and system administrators to integrate messaging functionality into applications running on IBM i. Configure and manage network connectivity, including firewalls and
routing rules specific to IBM i.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor message queues and system health on IBM i systems, proactively identify performance bottlenecks, and resolve issues. Investigate and troubleshoot message delivery failures or other system-
related problems specific to IBM i.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation related to system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides specific to IBM i. Generate regular reports on system performance, usage statistics, and
operational metrics.
Change Management: Implement changes to the messaging infrastructure on IBM i in a controlled and documented manner. Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule and execute changes, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing
operations.
Upgrades and Patches: Stay up to date with the latest IBM WebSphere MQ software releases and patches compatible with IBM i. Plan and execute upgrades and patches on IBM i systems, ensuring compatibility with existing systems and
applications.
Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures for WebSphere MQ systems on IBM i. Test and validate backup and recovery processes regularly, taking into account the unique aspects of IBM i platforms.
Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including application developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to support and troubleshoot issues related to the messaging infrastructure on
IBM i. Provide guidance and support to users of the messaging systems.
Requirements:
- Experience with IBM WebSphere MQ administration on IBM i (AS/400) platform.
- Knowledge of messaging concepts and protocols, including queue-based messaging and IBM MQ.
- Familiarity with IBM i CL programming language and ability to write and maintain CL scripts for system automation andmanagement.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in the WebSphere MQ environment on IBM i.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
