As a member of Home Chef's People Team, the Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for providing life cycle HR support to associates at Home Chef's Baltimore location. HR support includes but is not limited to: ensuring accurate attendance management, weekly submission of payroll files, leaves administration support, maintaining employee records, processing employee changes and answering associate questions on various HR topics. The HR Specialist will be a member of the local Plant People team and will help drive broader People initiatives that support employee engagement and Home Chef's DE&I strategy.
This role requires strong communication skills, a high level of confidentiality, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Detailed Responsibilities
HR Lifecycle Support
- Provide life cycle HR specialist and admin support to an employee population of approximately 500 employees. This includes hourly timekeeping, badge and attendance management, onboarding, offboarding, and leaves of absence administration support. Specific tasks include:
- Ensuring missed time clock punches are corrected and submitted before payroll submissions each week
- Process time off requests such as jury duty, bereavement, vacation and sick time
- Assist employees with the Leave of Absence process, helping them understand the timing, responsibilities and initial steps to start a LOA claim
- Provide information and guidance to help Associates navigate the Worker's Compensation process
- Respond to general policy questions
- Assist associates when they need assistance logging into the various systems (ex: ADP, Kronos), guiding account set-ups and password resets
- Attend new hire orientation and educate associates on the various actions they'll need to take to successfully onboard
- Partner with safety and facilities to request badges for new associates
- Process terminations from the company, ensuring successfully offboarding process
- Answer general policy questions
- Provide light employee relations support, conducting intake and initial triage for some employee relations matters
Other People Team Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted People team member, executing people initiatives that support the business objectives of the broader organization
- Establish and promote an inclusive work environment, aligned with the Home Chef culture, that enhances employee experience and increases retention
- Leverage HR reporting and metrics; analyze data, diagnose issues, and recommend solutions to address business challenges for the plant employee population
- Identify and drive continuous improvement within HR programs and processes that allow the People team to scale and evolve with a high growth organization
- Display business maturity and strong emotional intelligence.
- Protect interest of employees and the company in accordance with company policies, governmental laws and regulations
Qualifications

- Completion of a two-year program such as an Associate degree
- 5 years experience in the Human Resources field, with at least 3 years as a HR Associate or HR Specialist
- Ability to speak effectively to groups of employees
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong work ethic and initiative
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, strong problem-solving skills, good judgment
- Demonstrate success in designing, leading, and achieving projects and workgroup initiatives
- Good computer skills (MS Office, Google Workspace, ATS, HRIS, etc)

Home Chef offers the base salary range as posted below, with the exact offer depending on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, and internal equity. While compensation is within the provided range, it is not typical for offers to be made at the upper end. In addition to base salary, Home Chef provides a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, 401k match, and paid time off.
