Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Human Resources Director to lead and directly execute key HR initiatives within their rapidly growing organization in Northern Virginia. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and serving as a core member of the leadership team, this individual will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies while also engaging in hands-on execution to drive tangible results in a dynamic, high-growth government contracting environment. Key Responsibilities:
- HR Leadership and Team Management: Lead and oversee HR functions, including employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance. Supervise the HR team as it grows, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a collaborative and employee-centered culture.
- Performance Management: Drive the evolution of performance management practices, moving away from traditional annual reviews to a continuous feedback model that promotes growth, engagement, and accountability. Identify and implement tools to support a dynamic performance management system that aligns with company goals.
- Compensation and Benefits Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of compensation policies, including salary banding, merit-based pay increases, and potential bonus structures. Collaborate with leadership to ensure compensation practices are competitive and aligned with the company's growth and strategic objectives.
- Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: Maintain and enhance compliance with federal and state employment regulations, including AAP, EEOC, and Vets-4212. Oversee audits, documentation, and reporting processes to ensure continuous adherence to regulatory standards.
- Strategic HR Initiatives: Partner with leadership to identify HR strategies that support organizational scaling, including workforce planning, succession planning, and employee engagement programs. Guide cultural alignment initiatives to support a geographically dispersed team and remote work environment.
- HR Systems and Technology: Serve as the HR technology lead, optimizing systems to improve efficiencies across HR functions. Oversee and enhance HRIS (specifically Paylocity), and drive further digital transformation to streamline recruiting, onboarding, performance, and benefits processes.
- Recruitment and Onboarding: Manage and continually improve recruiting operations, with a focus on enhancing the candidate experience and employer branding. Work with hiring managers and the HR team to ensure an effective, scalable onboarding process that accelerates new hire integration.
- Organizational Culture and Change Management: Develop and lead initiatives to strengthen organizational culture, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission and values. Act as a change management champion, particularly around process changes, cultural initiatives, and policy updates, to ensure high engagement and adaptability within the workforce.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters preferred
- Minimum of 10 years progressive HR experience with at least 3 years at the Director level within an organization
- Must have recent experience in a high-growth organization within the government contracting industry
- Must have expertise in managing complex employee relations / performance issues
- Experience developing compensation programs and performance management
- Recent experience establishing and managing federal compliance (AAP, EEOC, Vets-4212, etc.)
- Strong tech-savvy with the ability to research and recommend technologies to streamline processes; experience with Paylocity a plus
- Experience with Office365, MS Teams, SharePoint
- Entrepreneurial drive and tenacity - self-motivation is a must
- Strategic thinker who has a strong tactical background – this will be a very “hands-on” role with both strategic and tactical responsibility

- Ability to build culture in a remote work environment creatively
- SHRM Certification Preferred
