Job Summary:
Reporting to the Lab Supervisor and Lab Manager, the Histotechnologist will be responsible for providing technical support in Dermatopathology, particularly in embedding, microtomy, staining, grossing, and processing of tissue samples. The Histotechnologist is a key member in the workflow of the lab and will work as a team player to ensure the efficiency and turnaround time of the complete processing of histology samples. They will work closely with the supervisor and manager to obtain optimum results based on quality control testing and accurate processing to support the Department’s research, education and clinical care missions.
Job Summary:
- Data entry and labeling specimen bottles
- Fill blocks and slides, dump dated specimens, and prepare slides for microtomy; train new staff on laboratory procedures
- Perform daily grossing of tissue samples including proper identification and measurement of each case; timely loading of all cassettes into the tissue processor and prepare daily specimen log
- Embed tissue samples, perform microtomy on regular, deeper sections, control sections and other requests for special stains and immunohistochemistry
- Prepare slides for special stains like PAS, GMS and Trichrome
- Check all chemical reagents for validity and expiration
- Maintain lab equipment and daily log with quality control results
- Aid supervisor and manager in preparing laboratory for CAP and State inspections
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent in education, training and experience required)
- Certification required in histology or MOHS histology
- Minimum 2 years’ of experience in a Histopathology and/or immunohistochemistry lab
- Must be able to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced environment, action-oriented environment
- License preferred with New York State Department of Education (NYSED) as a Histotechnologist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Technician, or Pathologist's Assistant
Hourly Rate Ranges: $33.80 - $53.37
Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
