Shop Manager & Fleet Maintenance Mechanics Wanted – Asphalt Company
Job Description:
This unique position is perfect for the self starter, energetic individual who takes direction well. We are currently looking to fill one management and all shifts for a year-round mechanic position. Our fleet includes medium, & heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, and some small engines.
Management Duties:
- To perform skilled mechanical work in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, light and heavy-duty trailers, construction equipment, and small engine equipment.
- Promote a safe working culture for all employees; working with shop personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees, at all times.
- Work with the President and other management to establish new policies and procedures to allow for system updates and efficient operations.
- Oversee shop operations through the administrative direction of the President to ensure adherence to the company’s vehicle fleet/equipment maintenance program.
- Prepare and file necessary tax filings, registrations, and titles filings as needed to meet required deadlines.
- Maintain and update the Company Equipment listing to ensure accurate insurance coverage.
- Monitor all shop expenditures, working closely with accounting to eliminate invoice errors.
- Recommend shop equipment purchases and maintenance needs to the company president. Implement and follow-up on all approved purchases over $5,000.00.
- Read all post trip inspection write-ups and prioritize repairs.
- Trouble shoot and repair equipment/trucks that break down on jobsites to restore production.
- Diagnose driver/operator concerns, order parts, perform repairs, and verify concern is fixed.
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area/shop.
- Maintain legible records of all repairs.
- Work hours to be performed based on company needs.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a mechanic- 5 years minimum. Certifications (ASE or manufacturer) are preferred but not required.
- Welding Skills required
- Knowledge of shop equipment and environment.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment on multiple projects.
- A valid Wisconsin License (CDL preferred).
- Full set of tools.
- Excellent work ethic, attendance, and ability to work with others on projects.
- Resourceful.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnosis skills.
- Some experience in electrical, drivability, and basic knowledge of scan tools.
- Detail oriented.
Job Duties:
- Perform routine vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Perform daily maintenance and trouble shooting.
- Diagnose, repair, and order parts.
- Troubleshoot and repair downed vehicles and equipment to restore to production.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
- Perform light & medium repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area/shop.
Benefits:
- $13.84 weekly cell phone allowance for 52 weeks.
- Eligible for year-end bonus based on company profitability.
- Paid vacation of ten (15) days. Employee is eligible for five days’ vacation during the production season, with the balance of vacation time taken during off season. All vacation time must be requested and approved by the president at a minimum 2 weeks in advance. Vacation time may not be carried over to the next calendar year.
