HOLT Truck Centers is looking to hire a full-time Safety Manager. This job position is responsible for developing and implementing overall strategy and execution of all aspects of the safety program for HOLT Truck Centers. The individual will work closely with the VP of Safety & Environmental Culture to develop training, policy, and procedure, to meet and exceed company expectations. Also, will assist with DOT/Fleet Compliance consisting of documentation, record keeping, training program content, and ensuring HOLT’s compliance to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, evaluates, and influences effective and consistent productivity and teamwork to ensure the delivery of Legendary Customer Service (LCS) at all locations for HOLT Truck Centers
- Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
- Collaborates with Holt’s Safety & Environmental Culture Dept to evaluate trends and identify the necessary resources to implement solutions that improve performance and compliance related matters
- Analyzes regional statistics and trends to successfully develop and execute safety strategies that are meant to prevent injuries and workplace accidents while supporting the overall organization
- Schedules and performs on-site inspections in shop and field environments, addressing potential safety hazards, implementing hazard corrective actions, providing follow-up on hazard corrective actions
- Oversees the development of corrective action recommendations and trains on RCA
- Works with management on maintaining a safety culture and coordinating safety activities while extending support to other regions
- Identifies safety needs and makes daily decisions on the allocation of resources within assigned region
- Provides training modules and facilitates on-site training to all employees and management; ensures follow-up on training updates/changes in workplace environment
- Performs, reviews and reports on audit results, develops policy & procedures, updates programs, and tracks hazard corrective actions to completion
- Represents the organization during visits with external and internal customers in a variety of meetings
- Develops strategies, goals and objectives for the department and drafting policies and procedures
- Reviews and tracks DOT inspections
- Provides training to supervisors and drivers. Help develop training modules and facilitating onsite training to technicians, drivers, and managers on a variety of driving compliance topics
- Reviews data analysis on violation information (e.g., HOS, Overspeed’s, Inspections, etc.) focus areas for remediation and prevention
- Reviews and reports on audit results, assist in writing safety regulation procedures, updates programs
- Supports efforts to ensure driver safety performance using our onboard computer system and associated monitoring systems
- Represents organization to external stakeholders such as customers or regulatory agencies
- Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong working knowledge of 29 CFR Part 1910 and 1926 including program specific requirements to include, but not limited to respirator, confined space, electrical, fall protection, hazard communication, and lock out tag out
- Understanding of OSHA, FMCSA, MSHA and Safety best practices
- Strong knowledge of 30 CFR parts 46/47/48/62 & 77
- Working knowledge of 40 & 49 CFR, State and Federal motor carrier safety regulations
- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA Safety Regulations
- Knowledge of adult education & training methods, module generation procedures, and techniques
- Strong computer skills including data management and presentation and experience in MS Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to have a direct, influencing discussion keeping with the Holt Vision, Values, and Mission
- Data analysis and problem-solving skills that uncover contributors to workplace incidents and development of solutions to address those risks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with multiple departments, internal/external customers, and various levels of the organization
- Ability to multitask in an environment of changing priorities
- Training module generation that aligns with policy and procedure; training facilitation skills to keep internal customers engaged
- Ability to supervise and oversee the work of others. This includes internal and external personnel
- Ability to provide leadership, counsel, motivation, and constructive performance reviews to staff
- Proven self-starter with a track record of managing multiple complex tasks with the ability to work across multiple functional areas internally and externally
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and an ability to identify problems, design, and articulate solutions, and implement change
- Strong customer service skills; prefer experience in service-oriented industry such as outsourced service providers or construction companies
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; College degree from an accredited college or university in related field strongly preferred; experience in a technical or other appropriate occupation related field may substitute for the education
- Five or more years of related experience required
- Track record the reducing site incident rates and communicate safety awareness required
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and development; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travel:
- Travel up to 50% with some overnight stay
- Valid driver’s license required; commercial driver’s license preferred
Physical Requirements:

- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Work Environment:
- Regularly works indoors and outdoors around moving mechanical parts and equipment
- Exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
- Noise level may be loud at times
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, and high-pressure water, high speed rotating equipment, and contaminants
