POSITION SUMMARY:
The Golf Course Maintenance 2025 internship program at Big Cedar Lodge offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience throughout all stages of golf course maintenance operations. This includes the construction, grow-in, and daily maintenance phases of PGA tournament-ready golf courses. Interns will play an integral role by being directly involved in all facets of golf course maintenance. Focus will be placed on learning golf course setup, fertilizer and pesticide programing and applications, irrigation control and maintenance, business administration, and developing the professional leadership and communication skills required to be successful in today’s golf course maintenance industry.
Interns will learn to navigate the agronomic and logistic challenges presented in maintaining superb playing conditions throughout a challenging growing environment and a fast-paced and demanding atmosphere. They will be heavily involved in many improvement projects and learning opportunities across all Big Cedar Lodge’s golf properties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform the cutting, trimming, seeding, irrigation and chemical application of all lawn areas
- Perform the bed preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation and chemical application of all flower beds and planting areas
- Perform the cleaning of debris, removal of snow and ice, spreading of sand and ice melt and repair and maintenance of all walkways, trails, drives and parking areas
- Perform tree maintenance including trimming, removal and irrigation
- Perform maintenance, repairs and winterization of irrigation systems
- Perform maintenance of landscaping equipment and tools
- Keep supervisor informed of equipment and supply needs
- Acquire working knowledge of the Golf Course and facilities to respond appropriately to guest questions, as required
- Keep supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters coming to his/her attention so prompt corrective action can be taken when appropriate
- Perform maintenance and upkeep of all fairways, green and sand traps according to golf standards
- Perform other related duties as required
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Be enrolled in a 2 year or 4-year Turfgrass Management Program
- Must be at least 18 years of age
