What You Will Be Doing
Reporting to the US General Manager, this position will be responsible for leading a team that will develop our company's finished vehicles and spare parts distribution network. You will develop logistics processes, systems, partnerships, and supply strategies to enable efficient operations and help our company achieve the lowest vehicle repair downtimes.
Candidates must have exceptional organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills; and be capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature with minimum supervision. This ideal individual will provide leadership and direction; establishing a coherent strategy consistent with our company's culture, strategic business objectives, and continuous improvement and cost-reduction efforts. The chosen Logistics Manager will need to be proficient in material planning, international logistics, warehousing, inventory control, strategic sourcing, capacity planning, material flow, packaging, distribution, and forecasting.
Responsible for all vehicle and parts-related logistical operations across our company's network of US workshops, distribution centers, warehouses, and holding/storage locations
Be the prominent leadership voice in developing, implementing, and improving preferred materials management practices with the number one goal being: “the right products at the right place at the right time!”
Investigate current global supply chain trends and implement solutions to optimize our company's entire supply chain and distribution network(s)
Oversee freight shipments, schedule routes, track orders, and ensure adequate product storage and distribution
Vital in RORO vs. container shipment decision-making for vehicle imports
Monitor transportation costs and compliance with all shipping requirements and regulations
Liaise directly with our company's US Service Operations Manager to lead materials management and planning practices for key elements such as, supplier performance, container management, packaging, quality, damage claims, on-time delivery, inventory turns, inventory record integrity, warehousing, PFEP, obsolescence, and running change management
Manage cycle counting process and establish relevant polices to maintain strict inventory control and accurate records; quickly exploring variances, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective remedies
Monitor and measure inventory levels; avoid excess inventory, aging inventory, and obsolescence
Acute focus on adherence of US importing requirements and customs compliance
Identify, onboard, and manage FVL service providers; liaise with Purchasing on all quotations and bids
Build new, and strengthen existing, 3PL partnerships
Successfully lead negotiations with suppliers to achieve safety, cost, quality, delivery, and performance objectives
Utilize supplier performance and cost data to develop and implement action plans to drive supplier performance and cost improvement
Recommend improvements to existing or planned vehicle and spare parts logistics processes
Review impact of logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, production volumes, carriers, or modes of transportation and advise on process and/or flow optimization
Direct oversight and mitigation of premium fright moves (expedites)
Coordinate special vehicle shipments for demonstrations, auto shows, and special events
Drive continuous improvement processes – eliminating waste wherever possible
What Skills & Experiences You Will Need
Required skills:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in logistics, supply chain management, or operations
Proficiency with English and Chinese languages, with either as native language
A Minimum of 10 years' working experience in automotive logistics, supply chain, or transportation functions. Experience in importing and customs required.
Understanding of OEM vehicle and/or parts transportation tactics
In-depth knowledge of logistics processes, including freight forwarding and transporting vehicles and automotive parts by air, sea, road, and rail
Aptitude for monitoring supplier performance through scorecards, metrics, KPIs, and similar methods (ability to provide anecdotal evidence or examples)
Strong negotiator. Proven experience conducting RFQs and bids.
Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates
Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
Preferred qualifications:
MBA strongly preferred
Working-level packaging experience in expendable and returnable dunnage, ocean containers, etc.
Experience with US parts distributors and current parts supply trends
Strong inventory control skills
Advanced knowledge of FVL transportation and logistics service providers
Understanding of global port and rail infrastructure
Familiarity with Lean principles and practices
This position is open for Remote work, although preferred to be based nearby the San Francisco or San Jose areas.
