How You Will Make a Difference at Sun Valley Academy
As the Preschool Lead Teacher, you be under the direction of the Preschool Director. You will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of the preschool program and children. The Lead Teacher is directly responsible for planning and organizing all daily activities and weekly lesson planning. In addition, the Lead Teacher is responsible to help plan events. You will also:
- Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
- Possess knowledge and understanding of preschool aged children as well as have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities.
- Be a self-starter and perform duties and job functions with little supervision.
- Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Possess the ability to follow written and oral direction.
- Must have excellent customer service skills which include being able to handle any questions that arise with the public by answering them or by giving them the proper directions for the answer.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be actively working towards an ECE Certification, Associates degree in ECE or child development; or a Bachelor's degree in ECE, child development or a child related field.
- Degree, CDA or ECE Credential preferred upon hire.
- Submit to various background checks.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have Fingerprint Clearance Card or apply for one before hire.
- Must complete a Tuberculosis test that is negative and provide documentation from a physician on or before your start date.
- Must maintain CPR/FA and Food Handler's card requirements.
- Must be available for full-time employment and have flexibility to perform duties required of the positon. EX: Attend school functions and meetings.
- Must register with the AZ Registry upon hire.
- Must be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom.
- Must have two years of previous experience working with preschool aged children.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft programs.
- Must attend all trainings to fulfill licensure training credits annually.
- Have dependable transportation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for children and families.
- Responsible for all activity and room preparations for the program.
- Keep the classroom orderly and well-inventoried. Request and submit supply orders to the Director for approval.
- Ensure that safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs a well as their educational needs.
- Maintain a safe environment for participants by supervising them at all times. Maintain proper Ratio's at all times. Ensure that all staff are positioned in a manner to view the children at all times.
- Assist children with activities of daily life (hand washing, family style meals, taking care of their environment, etc.).
- Create lesson plans using the school format that aligns with our curriculum at a minimum of 1 week in advance. Prepare activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children.
- Engage children in activities and play that stimulates their development.
- Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at all times.
- Be a positive role model for all care giving staff and children.
- Assist with training and supervision of site staff. Train any Teacher's Assistant in the classroom and direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day.
- Maintain open communication between preschool staff and school personnel.
- Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service. Communicate with the parents through daily drop-off and pick-up as well as on Class Dojo.
- Maintain records of attendance and sign-in/out sheets and turn them into the Assistant Director monthly.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward co-workers, families and scholars in the school.
- Report any problems or concerns with participants, co-workers, or the school to the Assistant Director within a timely manner.
- Follow and enforce policies and procedures.
- Proactively respond to any issues and concerns regarding the program.
- Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences.
- Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Make recommendations to the Director for improvement on equipment, supplies, facility and program needs.
- Set up and move furniture as needed.
- Clean up area throughout the day and after the program is finished.
- Complete end of year checklists and supply orders for the program.
- Be flexible, professional and be adaptable to new situations.
- Assist in other areas as needed.
WORK HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
The position Lead Teacher is a full-time position. The position is classified as a non-exempt hourly employee status. The hours worked on a daily basis may vary.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- May be exposed to all weather conditions. May be required to work in various temperatures within the facility and outside.
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS:
- Must be able to effectively coordinate with staff and keep program organized.
- Must be able to work closely with staff and other employees and set the example for the staff as well as participants.
- Ability to use good judgment and effective problem solving skills.
- Maintain proper administrative paperwork.
- Uphold and enhance the public image of the school in any conduct with the public.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand/sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs.
