Requirements
- Board Certification in either Internal Medicine or Family Practice and subspecialty certification in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine
- 5 years or more practice leadership experience
- US Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Duties and Assignments
CLINICAL
- Coordinates medical care and participates in the establishment of policies, procedures, and guidelines necessary for clinical care in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Oversees scheduling of advance practice providers in the CLCs.
- Monitors performance of medical services provided by the providers.
- Oversees admissions to the CLCs.
- Monitors CLC bed capacity and patient flow across CLC units.
- Collaborates in the monitoring of quality and safety concerns within the CLCs
- Communicates relevant responsibilities, policies and procedures to providers
- Monitors psychotropic medication use to minimize misuse.
- The Extended Care and Palliative Medicine Service (EC&PMS) Home Based Primary Care program (HBPC) Medical Director may hold a faculty appointment at Stanford University in the division of General Internal Medicine.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Represents CLCs on relevant facility committees
- Oversees hiring, credentialing, privileging, and Peer review processes for physicians and nurse practitioners working in the CLCs
- Oversees strategic planning for the CLCs
- Integral participant with Quality Improvement5 activities of the CLCs
EDUCATION
- Participates in CLC-related educational programs including provision of in-services, as needed and appropriate
- Ensures that CLC providers are current with educational requirements for licensure and are current with VA educational requirements

- Expected Salary Range from $275K - 320K (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience); Selected candidate may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), and if approved, receive up to $200k in school loan repayment.
