This leadership role will be the P&L owner of our Stop Loss business. Cigna leads the nation with the most Stop Loss revenue. The Stop Loss book of business creates immense value for Cigna by bringing in over $7B of revenue annually with gross margin of approximately $1B. The General Manager of Stop Loss will be responsible for protecting and growing this business through driving our high-cost claim strategy (including driving stop loss unit cost strategy with contracting leadership and engagement in high cost claim payment activities), driving cross-enterprise stop loss strategy development, maximizing Cigna's ability to assess risk, working with medical and Rx solution leads to deliver high cost claim solutions to market that drive integrated client value, and presenting innovative solutions to the market. The management process will pull in dedicated leaders who drive the stop loss solution from their area of expertise including finance, pricing, underwriting, marketing, solutions, and global data & analytics. This role will also have direct accountability for stop loss operations, sales support, market interface, producer strategy, and project management. This role is accountable for earnings results and drives conversations with key leaders around growth, profit, and financial planning.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
+ P&L Ownership : Serve as the P&L owner of the Stop Loss business, responsible for driving profitability, growth, and sustainable performance. This includes overseeing financial results, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring alignment with Enterprise-wide strategic goals.
+ Strategic Leadership : Develop and lead comprehensive strategies to maintain and expand the company’s position as the market leader in Stop Loss. Ensure these strategies anticipate market trends, address stakeholder needs, and balance financial outcomes with enterprise risk.
+ Enterprise Collaboration : Partner with Enterprise leaders to design and implement a cohesive Stop Loss strategy that extends beyond Cigna customer base, driving innovative risk solutions that support clients across diverse markets.
+ Market Innovation : Analyze industry dynamics and client feedback to identify unmet needs, collaborating with the Product Strategy Manager to develop and launch innovative solutions that enhance affordability, predictability, and risk mitigation for high-cost claims.
+ Affordability Initiatives : Collaborate with Cigna Affordability, Governance, & Execution organization to evaluate and execute strategies that reduce contracted rates for high-cost claims while balancing operational and financial outcomes.
+ Cross - Functional Collaboration: Build and maintain strong partnerships with buyer groups, markets, underwriting, finance (including pricing, reserves, and business financial officers), accounting, and other key stakeholders. Facilitate alignment on strategic objectives and operational execution to meet client needs, achieve business goals, and deliver against KPIs. Foster open communication to ensure seamless integration and shared accountability across all functions.
+ Operational Excellence : Oversee end-to-end Stop Loss operations, including claims management, contract administration, account management, and producer relations/agreements. Ensure seamless integration across these functions to deliver operational excellence, optimize client satisfaction, and strengthen producer and client partnerships.
+ Client Advocacy : Maintain robust support and service for clients utilizing third-party Stop Loss carriers, ensuring alignment with Cigna standards and reinforcing the company’s leadership position in the market.
+ Strategic Balance : Adopt a broad, forward-thinking approach that balances Enterprise priorities, market-driven needs, and P&L responsibilities while fostering innovation and long-term value creation.
+ Talent Development : Identify, recruit, and develop top-tier talent to build a high-performing Stop Loss team capable of executing the business’s current and future strategic objectives.
+ Cross-Enterprise Influence : Act as a subject matter expert and thought leader, representing the Stop Loss business in cross-enterprise initiatives and working groups involving risk-bearing strategies, fostering collaboration and innovation across the organization.
+ Market Leadership Representation : Represent the Stop Loss business in industry forums, conferences, and client engagements to enhance Cigna’s reputation as an innovative and trusted leader in the Stop Loss market.
+ Financial Planning and Analysis : Oversee detailed financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to ensure the Stop Loss portfolio achieves profitability and performance goals.
+ Internal Advocacy : Act as the primary advocate for the Stop Loss business within the Enterprise, ensuring alignment of resources and strategies with broader organizational goals.
+ Data-Driven Insights : Leverage data analytics and insights to shape underwriting, claims management, and product development strategies.

Qualifications
+ Seasoned professional with 10-15 years of professional experience across a variety of roles and leadership in a product/marketing or financial role
+ Strong P&L orientation and financial acumen
+ Ability to drive strategy, project initiatives and enterprise view as well as organizational agility across multiple functional areas – pulling through strategy and driving as one cohesive team.
+ Market oriented with passion for a strong understanding and connections with markets, buyer groups and key matrix partners.
+ Ability to lead through ambiguity and be a change agent.
+ Demonstrates the capacity to synthesize complex information from disparate sources into a clear compelling story that helps the organization commit to action.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 200,500 - 334,100 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
