SCHEDULE Monday-Friday 430PM-1230AM with occasional overtime
SUMMARY General Laborer in the Potato Packaging Facility of Sterman Masser, Inc. performs basic duties, as needed, in all areas of the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads production schedule boards, customer orders, or shipping orders to determine products to be packed.
- Pack (grasp and lift) 5-10lb bags into larger shipping packages
- Sorts and places product with weight of up to 50 lbs. onto pallets according to a predetermined sequence, such as size, type, style, or product code. May include restacking of pallets.
- Securing or wrapping of pallets for shipping according to customer specifications, including use of the automatic wrapper
- Conveys material and products from one area to another by hand, pallet jack or electric pallet jack.
- Example: Moving empty, partially-filled, and completely filled pallets or bin boxes; moving pallets from production to pallet wrapper, moving pallets from production to shipping
- Mark products with identifying information according to production board and customer specifications
- Maintains sewing machines by rethreading or replacing needles or thread.
- Weighs, counts, checks, or records amounts of products packed, received, or distributed. Shares out information with appropriate personnel.
- May complete requests for supplies or materials (notify fork lift operators, supervisors or inventory system personnel)
- Notifies appropriate personnel of down time and need for maintenance
- Must be able to work short-notice extended hour shifts, up to 12 hours daily, including weekends to meet production and customer needs.
- Follow 5S Lean principles for work area: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize & Sustain
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Assist with creating display containers.
- Identify and correct bag issues.
- Communicate with lead/supervisor when additional help is required
- Clean work area when machine is idle
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years or older or part of the student work program
- Must be able to consistently grasp, lift and stack 50 lbs. of product independently for up to 10 hours per day
- Must be able to consistently stack 50 lbs. or product onto a pallet up to 8 layers high (approximately 6 feet in height) or trained as a bailer operator
