Are you a legal expert with a passion for technology, and a strong background in licensing and patent law? Do you have a knack for navigating the legal complexities of the FinTech world? Do you thrive in the dynamic, fast-paced environment of a start-up? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are seeking a seasoned General Counsel to join our team on a part time basis, but will trend to full-time in second half of this year. This is a unique opportunity to shape the legal function of our organization, ensuring that we operate within the law at all times, whilst enabling business growth and protecting our interests.
Responsibilities:
As our General Counsel, your responsibilities will include:
1. Overseeing all legal matters across the organization, from contracts, licensing to patents, and ensuring that all our operations adhere to legal guidelines.
2. Developing and implementing an effective legal compliance program.
3. Advising the executive team on potential legal risks and mitigation strategies.
4. Drafting, negotiating, and finalizing agreements with partners, customers, suppliers, and employees.
5. Managing our intellectual property portfolio, including the development of our patent strategy and the protection of our proprietary technology.
6. Providing expert guidance on FinTech regulations and laws.
7. Leading the legal aspects of financing rounds, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
8. Representing the company in any legal proceedings.
9. Building relationships with external counsel and managing their work.
10. Providing training to the company on legal topics.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
1. A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the state bar.
3. A minimum of 5 years of legal experience, preferably within the technology industry.
4. Expert knowledge of corporate law, contract law, licensing and patent law.
5. Experience working in the FinTech sector.
6. A background in working with or within start-ups.
7. Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the company's business and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise.
8. Exceptional negotiation skills, with the ability to resolve issues and address complaints.
9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. The ability to work independently and proactively, manage numerous projects simultaneously and under deadline.
