JOB SUMMARY:
Reports to the designated fiscal services Finance Director for West Suburban Medical Center and Weiss Memorial Hospital. Prepares journal entries, financial statements, tax returns, and performs related complex accounting procedures.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required; master’s degree and/or designation as a Certified Public Accountant highly desirable.
- Experience in health care - preferred
- 2-4 years of progressive experience and responsibility in accounting.
- The analytical ability necessary to review complex accounts and prepare detailed financial reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with various affiliate directors/managers, physicians and auditors.
- Working knowledge of a personal computer including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
JOB DUTIES:
- Reviews and identifies daily cash activity for each company and prepares journal entry to record activity to the general ledger.
- Analyzes daily each company’s cash situation; prepares a cash forecast to ensure sufficient cash is available for any large forthcoming payments; notifies management of any cash problems: pays affiliate liabilities on a regular basis when cash is available.
- Prepares other assigned journal entries to record account activity to the general ledger.
- As assigned reviews preliminary fiscal period general ledger for accuracy of account balances and prepares necessary journal entries to correct ledger for fiscal reports.
- Reconciles and analyzes complex accounts that support financial statements including cash, intercompany, depository bank statements, other assigned accounts.
- Reviews and prepares variance analysis of assigned accounts.
- Supports financial reporting by transferring general ledger information to spreadsheet financial reporting software, and preparing accompanying financial schedules.
- Assists directors and managers by analyzing individual expense statements and answers variance questions.
- Monitors capital asset expenditures, records any trade-ins and disposals, determines depreciable life, computes book and tax depreciation, and maintains property/equipment records; prepares budgets for depreciation.
- Supports in the preparation of statements, work papers and schedules for public accountants and other external and internal auditors such as Medicare, Internal Revenue Service, etc.
- Assists directors and managers with the budget process and supports with updating the approved budgets to financial systems.
- Conforms to the established Standards of Behavior.
- Supports and updates internal policies and procedures as necessary.
- Supports and participates in cross training within the finance department. Other duties as assigned
