Fund Accounting Manager
Our client, a prominent company in the real estate investment industry, is seeking a Fund Accounting Manager. This role is based in San Francisco, with in-office work required three days per week. The successful candidate will support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and provide tax accountants and auditors with necessary information. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with various departments and contribute to the company’s financial integrity.
Responsibilities:
Daily/Weekly:
- Investment vehicle level cash analysis.
- Approve payables/expenditure workflow using NEXUS (AP system), Paymode-X/Kyriba (payment processing), and MRI (GL system).
- Respond to internal and external inquiries.
Monthly:
- Roll-up and reconciliation of investment accounts for various Separate Accounts, Joint Ventures, and/or Co-Investments.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly Flash Reports for various investment vehicles.
- Provide oversight to the team responsible for recording month-end journal entries and facilitating the closing process.
- Balance sheet reconciliation (cash, AP, AR, etc.).
- Maintain the general ledger and update supporting schedules and workbooks.
Quarterly:
- Lead the quarter-end close process and preparation of financial statements.
- Prepare and coordinate finalization of quarterly investor reporting packages.
- Maintain partner capital accounts.
- Prepare ad hoc reports for investors.
Annually:
- Prepare financial packages for auditors, including financial statement preparation and footnote disclosure for standalone audits.
- Prepare financial packages for tax accountants and review partnership tax returns.
- Respond to tax and audit inquiries.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Investment Teams, Portfolio Managers, CFO, Senior Managing Director – Analytics and Strategic Planning, and Managing Director – Finance and Investor Reporting on ad hoc projects.
- Assist in accounting analysis on acquisitions and dispositions.
- Involve in investor relations and communications.
- Understand and interpret specific legal agreements (LP Agreements, LLC Agreements, Loan Agreements).
- Maintain confidentiality of all company procedures.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with all company training requirements.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Regular attendance is essential.
- Maintain a courteous, helpful, and professional attitude.
- Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, general correspondence, and maintaining files.
- Perform other duties as assigned in a positive and helpful manner.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 5 years of accounting work experience. Experience in real estate, private equity, or financial services is strongly preferred. Additional experience in development or multi-family spaces is a bonus.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with MRI and Juniper Square is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of partnership/fund accounting concepts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create a positive work environment for the team.
- Highly organized, flexible, and strong follow-through.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, deadline and detail-oriented, with a sense of urgency.
- Proactive, resourceful, efficient with strong decision-making skills; able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Enjoys the challenges of supporting a small department.
- Expert-level written and verbal communication skills; must possess high-level professionalism and strong communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels and personality types in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure.
- Detail-oriented, a learner and problem-solver with an active, curious intellect.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $140K - $160K per year.
