Summary
The Foreman will be responsible for overseeing physical labor on building, residential, and heavy construction projects. This role involves the operation of various hand and power tools, including air hammers, concrete vibrators, small mechanical hoists, and floor grinders. Key responsibilities include site preparation, installation of bulkheads, pouring, leveling, and finishing underlayment products. The Foreman will collaborate with the team to meet daily goals, assist in training and development, complete daily timesheets, and coordinate activities with Kent’s Superintendent.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance:
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats and high-visibility apparel.
- Install and maintain fall protection systems and barricades.
- Site Management:
- Prepare and maintain job sites by cleaning and organizing.
- Locate and utilize materials, supplies, equipment, and tools to meet production and quality goals.
- Physical Labor:
- Perform general labor tasks safely, including lifting and breaking 80 lb. bags of gypcrete.
- Work on uneven surfaces, hands and knees to install sound mat and navigate ladders, scaffolding, and shoring as needed.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate various hand and power tools proficiently, including skid steers and pumps.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in a safe and reliable condition.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with crew leads and the Superintendent regarding safety, progress, and problem-solving.
- Assist the Superintendent in tracking onsite materials and reporting usage.
- Quality Control:
- Perform quality control and assurance on underlayment pours.
- Ensure proper mix designs and materials are utilized, recording quality controls as necessary.
- Training and Development:
- Train and support team members to enhance skills and build a stronger division.
- Project Execution:
- Read and interpret take-off sheets and blueprints to perform tasks according to specifications, including elevation pin installations.
- Direct and perform sound mat installation and ensure timely mobilization of crew and materials.
- Task Coordination:
- Lead the crew in loading company assets and ensuring safe and timely arrival at job sites.
- Assist in setting up standard job site configurations in coordination with the Superintendent.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications
- Commercial construction experience, particularly gypsum underlayments.
- Valid Driver’s License, including the willingness to obtain a CDL (company will assist with costs involved with this licensing, as outlined in the company CDL Licensing Agreement)
- Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving.
- Ability to Pass DOT physical and maintain MDOT MED card within the agreed-upon timeframe.
- Continuous training and consistent experience in underlayments, leveling, and leadership.
- Ability to work nontypical days and hours on construction schedules.
- OSHA 30 or must complete 30-hour OSHA certification within the agreed-upon timeframe.
- Proficient with construction equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials.
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
- Provide personal gear such as steel-toe boots and hand tools like a box cutter.
Preferred education and experience
- 5-7 years’ experience in construction/concrete construction.
- Prior experience working in a high-performance, team-oriented environment.
- First Aid & CPR: Must maintain current First Aid and CPR certification during employment.
Work Environment/Physical Demand
This position works in a typical construction site environment. This position requires long periods of standing and should be able to lift 80 pounds.
Position type and expected hours of work
This is a full-time field position. Typical hours will range from 45 to 50 per week and are subject to change. This role requires working nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules.
Travel
This position requires travel to the company’s shop, and will commute to the job site with other employees.
