REQUIREMENTS
New England Cancer Specialists is looking for a Per Diem "First Call" Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. The “first call provider” will triage incoming messages from the answering service and partner emergency departments and hospital providers, calling back patients in a timely manner to answer emergent questions. An on-call physician from the practice will be available for consultation, as needed. On-site hospital consultations may be required at any of our partner hospitals in emergent situations, when requested by a NECS Attending provider. Most hospital consultations may be completed remotely via telemedicine.

Required Experience:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients utilizing interviews, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies both over the phone and in person.
- Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list as needed.
- Review patient records in appropriate electronic medical record before recommending treatment plan for patient
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data, diagnose and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient’s hematologic/oncologic diagnosis, perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician, and prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
- Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
- Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
- Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.
- Participate in hospital consults at hospitals in Maine and New Hampshire.
- Update appropriate electronic medical record with plan of care for patient within 24hrs of phone call or hospital consult
- Provide written documentation and follow-up information to patient-specific physicians at the end of each shift.
- Participate in weekend urgent care clinic schedule
- Participate in monthly NECS APP, Division, and staffing meetings.
- Contribute to a work environment with a high level of employee engagement and morale.
REQUIREMENTS
- State of Maine and State of NH License current registration to practice in state.
- Ability to receive approval of hospital privileges at partner hospitals in Maine and New Hampshire
- Graduate from a registered NP program or PA program
- Minimum of 3 years full-time, post-licensure clinical NP/PA experience in Oncology and Hematology
- Travel may be required for hospital consultations in emergent situations.
