About the Job

The Fire Inspector/Investigator earns a competitive hourly salary of $36.12-$38.32/hour, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A FIRE INSPECTOR/INVESTIGATOR
Job Summary
The purpose of this class within the organization is to conduct origin and cause fire inspections, fire investigations, and to investigate environmental crimes.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential Functions
- Performs fire inspections of new and existing facilities to ensure compliance with various laws and ordinances.
- Meets with contractors and examines building plans as needed to discuss projects under construction.
- Performs plan reviews of facilities being proposed in the City to ensure they meet the requirements as adopted by the City.
- Performs fire and arson investigations.
- Performs investigations related to professional standards.
- Enforces environmental crimes.
- Manages evidence in the event of criminal acts.
- Enforces federal, state, and local laws and codes.

Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in fire science or closely related field.
- Requires one year firefighting, investigation, or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Texas Class B Exempt Driver's License
- TCOLE Peace Officer Certification
- TCFP Fire Inspector Certification
- TCFP Fire Investigator Certification
