About the Job

The Financial Counseling Support role accurately and efficiently assesses patients for insurance status and assists those patients who may require financial aid.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Counsels patients and families regarding all financial options including New York State insurance programs, hospital charity care and other payment options.

Properly documents and accurately enters patient information into the NYS Marketplace and hospitals financial system.

Diligently obtains and verifies Medicaid and refers commercial insurance to appriorate department.

Efficiently maintains comprehensive tracking report of hospital charity care applications and Medicaid applications to monitor status and conversation rate.

Proficiently investigates problem accounts, identifies and updates any missing information in an organized fashion.

Accurately and efficiently monitors all pending insurance and charity care reports and worklists.

Counsels patient and families regarding long term and short term rehabilitation applications with the county.

Job Requirements:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 3 years experience with insurance verification/authorization, patient account maintenance or government insurance programs. Certified Application Counselor (CAC) Certification required within 3 months of employment. Continued employment as a Financial Counseling Support is contingent on the employee passing the certification exam. Re-certification must be maintained throughout employment at Crouse Health.

Preferred: Associates degree preferred.

Special Skills/Equipment: Solid knowledge and understanding of all major health insurance carriers and government insurance programs. Good knowledge and use of electronic accounting systems. Knowledge of MS Office including Outlook. Must pass a Financial Counseling Test with a score of 75% or higher

Hourly Rate Range

$16.90-$32.19/hour
