Position Overview:
The Field Mechanic supports line construction crews on the right of way, and is responsible for diagnosing and repairing various mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for on- and off-road vehicles including aerial lift trucks, digger derricks, tracked bulldozers, etc.
Travel Requirements:
This position will be traveling 75%+ of the time throughout Missouri and with additional support in Kansas.
What You'll Do:Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair equipment
- Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment
- Point of contact for incoming and outgoing equipment
- Perform DOT inspections on equipment
- Drive CMV's, operate cranes and other equipment for division needs
- Maintain telematics
- All other duties as assigned
- Work a minimum of 50 hours a week on a regular basis, possibly 7 days a week
Skills and Qualifications:
- Maintain working knowledge of hydraulic systems, pneumatic braking systems, diesel engines, aerial lift trucks, and electrical systems
- Ability to travel, work outside in all months
- Ability to operate various construction equipment necessary to diagnose mechanical issues
- Ability to work in adverse conditions such as mud, snow, rain, sun, cold, heat
- Must have valid driver’s license, as position requires frequent periods of driving to reach work locations
- Must obey all applicable DOT, traffic and speed laws
- Must maintain financial accountability, as fuel and purchasing cards for work and travel expenses are provided, and must be accounted for by issuing receipts
- Experience and ability to manage computer software diagnostic programs and timesheets
- Ability to multi-task, and work very well independently, and in a group (team) setting
- Must have integrity and dependability
Education and Experience:
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3 Years’ Experience with Construction Vehicles
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Formal hydraulics, diesel, mechanic training preferred
- 5 Years’ Experience with Construction Vehicles (preferred)
