Job Overview::Due to Company growth, we are actively seeking a part-time Field Construction Supervisor to join our Transmission & Substation Construction Team in Upstate, New York.
Responsibilities & Duties::- Coordinate the daily activities of assigned external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility civil construction. Work in unison with other National Grid departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.
- Monitor job progress, document crew activities and prepare reports.
- Assure that high standards of safety, security and environmental compliance are consistently followed at assigned work locations.
- Fully understand the assigned project scope and contract work authorization details. Interface with others on the project to ensure job commitments are delivered on time and within budget.
- Ensure company guidelines and procedures, standards, and environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Assure compliance to all applicable Federal, state, local and client guidelines, laws and regulations.
- Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per the client’s specifications, standards and applicable contractual documents.
- Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings, technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.
- Document contract crew activities prepare and present periodic oral and written update reports and verify the accuracy of contractor invoicing. This will include ensuring adherence to contract documents to completion and monitoring change orders and reasoning. Report on job progress utilizing a web-based reporting database.
- Ensure successful performance of assigned contract crews and help to encourage a "continuous improvement" field work environment within a performance-based culture.
- Directly related experience in the Construction and Maintenance of Substation Facilities or Transmission / Distribution Systems is necessary:
- Two-year degree in a related field and 3 years of field experience, or five or more years of related experience in Construction and Maintenance of Electrical Transmission and Distribution Systems, or Five or more years of related experience in Construction and Maintenance of Substation Facilities
- Applicants should have the knowledge, experience, and skills needed to review project plans, specifications, contract enforcement, and applicable technical standards, OSHA, and other regulatory statutes.
- Previous experience with switching and tagging procedures as well as holding tags for projects.
- General knowledge of applicable environmental regulations governing
- Construction: stormwater pollution prevention, wetlands, stream crossing, and spill response for projects requiring environmental permits or compliance.
- Basic knowledge of industry codes governing the electric industry including NEC, NESC, and OSHA.
- Transmission line work experience required.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings and convey interpretations to contractors.
- Able to assess the health of Utility assets and equipment as they relate to the utility inspection program.
- Good working knowledge through actual use of MS Office products including Excel, Access, Word, and MS Project.
- Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
- Able and willing to travel within an assigned region or area.
- When requested, able and willing to support storm work or another electric system
- Must live in New York State and able to travel to sites daily
- Must have current US Work authorization and valid US Driver’s License in good standing.
The salary range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licenses and certifications; and other related skillsets. The disclosed range is an estimate and has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
