As a Federal Reserve System National Business Line, it is standard practice to post FRFS positions in all twelve Districts to provide transparency and equitable opportunities for all FRS employees to apply. Internal candidate(s) selected for this position will remain employed by their current employing District and serve as an employee of FRFS. The selected candidate’s new job title and associated pay range will be determined by the employing District and will continue to be subject to the employing District’s people policies and practices (i.e., remote/hybrid work posture, etc.)
The Data Platform Engineer performs a critical role delivering the core capabilities and features of a strategic cloud data management platform. This position will be responsible for the delivery of platform enablers including the design, build, security and operationalization of reusable data platform components in support of Financial Services data users and stakeholders. The Data Platform Engineer is expected to maintain a deep technical knowledge of data management capabilities and tools to create platform patterns and technical best-practices with the goal of increasing adoption, operational efficiency, and realized business value for the Federal Reserve Bank and Financial Services. This position does not have direct reports.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Platform Lifecycle
Drive design, engineering, implementation and configuration of platform services to support overall enterprise patterns and reenforcing best practices.
Develop patterns for common platform needs (e.g. logging, monitoring, alerting, backup, encryption, tooling, etc.) across all layers of the platform and supporting services.
Works with business and technology partners to identify, define, interpret and clarify scope of the data management platform integrations.
Partner with Information Security representatives to develop, implement and/or execute security configurations and controls.
Apply and integrate emerging technology trends to new and existing platform enablers.
Support and refine the utilization strategy for the platform and enhance its overall architecture, security, performance and financial aspects.
Contribute to platform, product and architectural roadmaps.
Platform Administration
Performs development of common platform components and advanced configuration activities in the data platform.
Creates integrations between the data management platform and FRS and other 3rd party applications.
Manages the core security model configurations in accordance with information security.
Develops real-time and batch ETL/ELT data processes aligned with business needs.
Manages and augments the data pipeline from solutions, such as databases and storage solutions, to data solution structures.
Operational Excellence
Provide support for deployed data applications and analytical models by being a trusted advisor to Data Scientists and other data consumers by identifying data problems and guiding issue resolution.
Assists in creating the data management strategies to support business intelligence efforts for various stakeholders
Develops and maintains automation for deployments to reduce manual processes and improve efficiencies across systems and data centers.
Leads solution design discussions, develops work effort estimates for implementation and presents solutions.
Drafts and maintains solution documentation for platform components, integrations, and common use patterns to meet all architectural, security and operational requirements as defined by the larger Federal Reserve System.
Your Background
The Platform Data Engineer will need to provide demonstrated experience in cloud development, cloud technologies, and data lake architectures. This includes:
Experience delivering platform solutions from design to production
Experience integrating platform with 3rd party solutions (e.g. from cloud to on-prem and vice-versa, etc.)
Experience engineering solutions across a heterogeneous datacenter, cloud and SaaS environments
Experience using standard development practices
Experience with change management systems and processes
Experience with cloud scripting languages (e.g. Python, Java, etc.)
Experience with CI/CD tools and processes (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, etc.)
Platform certification is a plus (e.g. AWS Practitioner, Big Data, etc.)
Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) highly desired
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
6 -plus years of direct work-related experience
For Lead role: Minimum 8 years architecting, designing and engineering highly complex technology solutions across multiple diverse platforms requiring high performing, high volume transaction processing
