Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician
Duration: 12 Months with possibility of extension
Location: 1050 Swabia Ct. Durham, NC 27703
Shift hours: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM
Description
Primary responsibility is to maintain the ARC (Avian Research Center) Facilities in support of the R&D mission with the goal to identify and resolve any issues before they impact the mission of the ARC. Secondary responsibility to support the 1040 location R&D labs.
Duties:
" Follow all ARC Biohazard protocols and the proper disposal of Bio Hazardous waste
" Comply with all Biosecurity and Biosafety protocols
" Generate and maintain ARC facilities data records
" Monitor/Fulfill Work Orders in support of facilities operations
" Electrical/Plumbing/Mechanical repairs including in rooms with active studies
" Monitor building/room air pressurizations to ensure proper air flow from biologically clean to biologically dirty areas
" Monitor and adjust temp, humidity, and water flow in study rooms
" Observe and correct activities impacting biological integrity and personal safety
" Support set up, maintenance, and repair of all lab specific equipment
" Install environmental controls and monitoring equipment
" Monitor on-site contractors
" On-Call Alarm response Weekend and evening on call rotation
" Inventory/Order Pre-Filters, supplies
" Schedule Contractor performed PM s
" Perform Scheduled Preventative Maintenance:
" Daily:
o Monitor Pre-Filter / Study Room schedules, replace A/R
o Monitor room filters in study rooms
o Monitor Room temperatures and humidity
" Weekly:
o Drain Cage Washer steam generator boiler(s)
o Read and record Room pressures
o Inspect and clean study room lens caps and receptacles
o Check and repair water systems supplying study rooms
o Emergency Generator
Maintain operational integrity of backup systems to ensure environmental systems remain operational during adverse weather
o Check/replace room filter sleeves
o Read, record and analyze Manometer readings
o Inspect/renew study room water integrity
" Monthly:
o Cage washer
Validation, operations check, trouble shooting
o Inspect life safety systems
o Validate emergency backup systems
" Quarterly:
o Schedule PM s for critical vivarium systems
o ISO Pre-Filter Change (Bio Hazard)
" Semiannual:
o Schedule Air Compressor PM s
" Annually/Biannually- Change HEPA Filters per schedule
Education and Experience:
" Minimum 2 years field experience in an R&D setting with trade school/high school/associates degree OR 5 years total field experience in a R&D setting or 5 years total field experience in a lab setting
" Minimum of 1 year experience working with HVAC systems
" Person must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. Good general computer skills with knowledge in E-mail, Internet, Microsoft Word are a plus for this position. Person must be a self-motivated individual who can work independently or in a team environment
" Must have the ability to lift 70 lbs frequently
" Must have a valid US driver license
" May be required to work overtime to meet deadlines
