Responsible for direction of patient care in the Perioperative Services setting. Consults with staff, physicians and Chief Nursing Officer on nursing practice issues and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.
Salary Range: $79.78 - $97.57
Shift: M-F 8 hours
Minimum Education and Experience
- Completion of an accredited registered nursing program
- BSN required
- MSN preferred
- Two (2) years of nursing leadership experience preferred
- Three (3) or more years' experience in all aspects of Med-Surg nursing preferred
Required License /Certification
- Current California Registered Nursing License.
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required

Essential Functions
- Oversight and Accountability: Oversee the administrative and operational functions of Perioperative Services, Radiology, and SPD.This position has the following managers/positions as direct reports:Inpatient OR manager, Outpatient OR and HOPD Operations manager, SPD manager, Preoperative and Postoperative Services manager, Scheduling lead, and Radiology lead.Ensure compliance with hospital policies, productivity standards, and quality goals, holding managers/leads accountable for their areas while stepping in to manage or coach when necessary.
- Patient Care and Staffing Management: Ensure safe, effective patient care across departments by monitoring nursing practices, ensuring proper staffing, and leading recruitment efforts as needed. Support managers in maintaining appropriate staffing levels and coach them through challenges or deviations from the staffing matrix.
- Set and Monitor Quality Goals: In collaboration with hospital leadership and frontline teams, establish and monitor quality goals and performance indicators for each department. Hold managers accountable for meeting these goals and provide direct oversight if they struggle to meet expectations.
- Staffing Matrix Compliance and Reporting: Ensure managers maintain staffing within established goals and follow the staffing matrix. Develop and support action plans for deviations, and ensure all staffing data is accurately reported in the electronic database for real-time tracking and decision-making. Step in to guide managers if they are unable to meet staffing expectations.
- Timely Dashboard Management and Escalation: Hold managers accountable for the timely entry of dashboard items, closely tracking progress and deadlines. Provide coaching or step in directly if they cannot meet expectations, and ensure timely escalation of issues to the next-in-line leader when necessary.
- Ensure Evidence-Based Care: Oversee patient care to ensure alignment with organizational standards and evidence-based practices. Provide mentorship to managers on incorporating best practices into department operations.
- Staff Development and Support: Guide managers in providing staff support, professional development, and performance management. Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and staff meetings to ensure accountability. Step in to mentor or assist when managers face challenges with team management.
- Closed-Loop Communication: Hold managers accountable for maintaining closed-loop communication by providing monthly stoplight reports on key metrics, action items, and departmental progress. Step in as needed to ensure clear communication and resolve any gaps.
- Promote Ongoing Education and Development: Collaborate with the hospital educator and ensure managers hold their teams accountable for participation in ongoing education. Step in to support or coach managers if they struggle to enforce educational participation.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Lead and coach managers in collaborating with educators and multidisciplinary teams to ensure staff education, patient care planning, and quality improvement initiatives are aligned with evidence-based practices.
- Conflict Resolution and Positive Work Environment: Support managers in resolving conflicts, negotiating solutions, and maintaining a positive work environment. Step in to manage conflicts directly if needed and coach managers on conflict resolution techniques.
- Timely Escalation of Issues: Ensure appropriate and timely escalation of clinical or quality concerns by holding managers accountable and stepping in directly if required.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Take ownership of additional responsibilities as needed, while coaching and empowering managers to handle the operational demands of their departments effectively.
