DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
Performs any one or combination of related and recurring production line and material handling activities in the Austin Extrusion/Blending department, which may include, but is not limited to operation of production equipment in the mixing area, slitter area and regrind area in accordance with established procedures and safety regulations. Input numerical/information data on batch orders, reports, etc. into a CRT.
Operate a forklift safely. Incumbent will schedule their tasks in such a manner so as to maintain/meet production needs. Documents lot changes, line clearances, calculations, and numerical data, downtime, and Quality Assurance checks per work order instructions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assists in lot changes, performs line clearances, performs and documents cleaning operations as required. Knowledgeable of defect recognition and ability to pass annual written area requirements for area/job certification. Ensure area equipment is maintained within Batch Order certified parameter ranges.
Inspects components, materials, batch order documents, logbooks, and final products either as inherent part of the production process or offline. Knowledgeable of defect recognition, product sampling per batch record instructions recognizes action levels and notifies area specialist and/or supervisor if out of range.
Adheres to area JSA plan and ergonomic recommendations.
Reports all accidents or near misses immediately to area specialist and/or supervisor, as well as any observed unsafe acts. Meets the established labor standards for the respective tasks.
Assures adequate levels of commodities and supplies are maintained for assigned functional area. Removes scrap as well as finished product to designed areas as needed. Achieve production through put and quality standards and report any deviations from those standards to area specialist and/or supervisor.
Works with internal customers, shares information and provides feedback on commodity related issues.
Ensures quality product is delivered to the next process in line on time per production schedule.
Works in a team environment, which includes, but is not limited to, problem solving, using interpersonal skills to coordinate activities, effectively communicate and follow verbal and/or written instructions. Adapts to a changing environment, and/or situations, in a constructive manner.
Assist in area improvements, cost reductions, department changes and meetings. Must be able to schedule own tasks and work independently while meeting the needs of the team department. Must be able to schedule own work to meet production needs and ensure there are no interruptions to the extrusion process.
Must be able to determine best use of available regrind in mixing (e.g., which box to use to get the most desirable regrind percent based on available regrind, amount of powder in system, feedback from equipment operators as to color and melt issues for that extruder.) Must be able to evaluate equipment performance based on prescribed procedure and/or processes. Adapt to changing situations and the requirement to change the work, break and lunch schedules as operational needs change. Adhere to cGMP guidelines, SOP's and plant rules/policies. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge & Skills Ability to read, write, and understand English - follow both verbal and written instructions.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, divide, work with fractions, decimals, and percentages). Position requires average mechanical skills, must be able to perform mechanical adjustments, minor troubleshooting, use power and hand-operated tools, drive a forklift, and operate a pallet jack.
Ability to read and follow schematic diagram for equipment set up.
Ability to properly handle hazardous waste per approved operating procedure.
Must be able to lift and/or manipulate up to 50 pounds repeatedly over a 12-hour shift.
Must be able to obtain a forklift license, which will require ability to complete and pass a fork lift physical, written test, and operate a fork lift safely. Be able to demonstrate the ability to schedule their own tasks in such a manner so as to maintain production needs.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum six months experience as a Production Operator in this facility.
Must be able to pass the GMP and area certification requirements.
Work Environment Works in a manufacturing environment. Must wear hearing protection, safety shoes, prescription glasses (if prescribed), and any/all personal protective equipment required to perform jobs in areas.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted. Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
