About the Job
Exos is seeking a Sports Performance Nutrition Specialist that will work a one year assignment specifically with the St. Louis Cardinals professional baseball team. Candidates must be credentialed as Registered Dietitians. The Specialist will be responsible for integrating nutrition into the overall performance strategy for the athletes of a professional sports team, ensuring a seamless connection between diet and athletic performance. This role also includes guiding athletes on a daily basis to enhance their performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for Performance Nutrition across the organization.
- Provide both onsite and remote consultations for athletes and staff on nutrition plans, performance strategies, and dietary recommendations.
- Collaborate with KitchFix on culinary support to create meals aligned with athletes' performance goals.
- Counsel athletes on optimizing physical performance, competition, and recovery through targeted nutrition strategies.
- Assess dietary habits, body composition, and energy balance in relation to athletic performance.
- Support athletes with weight management, hydration, immunity, travel nutrition, and supplementation strategies.
- Evaluate nutritional supplements for safety, efficacy, and compliance with sports governing bodies.
- Manage the supplement budget, ensuring compliance with safety and legal standards.
- Maintain detailed records of athlete progress and feedback.
- Coordinate with coaching, medical, and culinary staff to integrate nutrition into all performance programs.
- Collaborate with the Cardinals’ MiLB dietitian for continuity in performance nutrition across the organization.
- Deliver nutrition education to athletes and staff through presentations and workshops.
- Plan and manage food service logistics, including catering and menus for home and away games.
- Oversee budgets related to nutrition expenses, such as kitchen supplies and travel meals.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active registration.
- Missouri state dietetic licensure (or willingness to obtain).
- Master’s degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or a related field.
- Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or willingness to pursue.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in sports nutrition counseling, preferably in a professional or collegiate setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary experience or education.
- Management or leadership experience.
- Spanish fluency is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with a diverse team, including athletes, coaches, chefs, and support staff.
- Strong organizational skills with proficiency in record-keeping and time management.
- Knowledge of ergogenic aids, supplements, and complementary medicine.
- Skilled in assessing body composition and energy balance for athletes.
- Familiarity with NCAA, USADA, WADA, and other sports regulations on banned substances.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and HIPAA compliance.
