Job Details
Estimator is responsible for detailed estimates for the project based on the construction drawings and specifications. Assists with the communication of bids and scopes of work. This position will assist Senior/Lead Estimator to establish costs for materials, equipment, subcontracted work, production activities, requirements, and labor.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Support all aspects of subcontractor and supplier estimating and bidding processes.
Competently draft, proof, review, and deliver both private and public proposals.
Consults with subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, effect cost reductions, and resolve issues.
Research construction documents and analyzes specifications to determine estimated costs.
Work with Operations Teams, Project Managers, Marketing, and administrative throughout preconstruction process in reviewing plans and specifications for constructability issues and determining general requirements on the project.
Ensure company compliance with bidding regulations and goals of each project.
Develop, prepare, coordinate, and execute presentations and proposals to existing or new clients.
Work on multiple company bids simultaneously and delivering in accordance with deadline objectives.
Operate and maintain proficiency in all internal estimating systems, technologies, and software.
Minimizes exposure and risk by implementing quality assurance controls in estimating. Promptly reports changes and issues in scope and revenue to senior management.
Identify, retrieve, comprehend, and administer RFQ and RFP solicitations.
Ability to manage and track multiple projects at once.
Ensure estimates comply with the requirements of the overall construction contract with the Owner.
Relate and transfer all relevant project information to Project team.
Review subcontractor and supplier bids for conformity to contract requirements and determine acceptable bids.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Experience in estimating construction projects.
Able to read, understand and follow required construction documents.
Proficient in construction estimating software (HCSS, HeavyBid, PlanSwift, BlueBeam, MS Excel, MS Word).
Excellent written and verbal skills & strong numerical and analytical skills.
Able to work with external clients using strong commercial awareness.
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Strong leadership attributes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, and vendors.
Familiarity with financial and project management principles
In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation metrics
Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities
Excellent organizational skills
Education and Experience:
B.S. degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management or equivalent field experience.
Minimum of four (4) years construction experience with a minimum of two (2) years of estimating experience.
Physical Requirements:
The ability to see, read and understand written communications: including directions, instructions and warning signs, to see and distinguish colors, to visually distinguish shapes and patterns, to accurately sense distances (depth perception), to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide angles (peripheral vision).
Able to wear personal protective equipment is required, including but not limited to steel toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
Climb permanent and temporary stairs, ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl on an occasional basis.
Reaching, extending the hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in an office or on-site at the construction work site.
