The City of Friendswood Street & Drainage Department of Public Works is currently accepting applications for an Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department, Utilities Division. Job provides support in the Utilities section of Public Works maintenance programs for all public water and sanitary sewer infrastructure within the City of Friendswood. Provides intermittent supervision of maintenance crews. Operates heavy and light equipment, such as backhoe/loader, excavator, haul truck, dump truck, and combination jet/vacuum truck, to construct or maintain public water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. DUTIES: Able and willing to perform the duties of the utility maintenance on a regular basis. Operates heavy equipment in the performances of duties as required. Operates light or heavy trucks to haul crew members, materials and equipment to and from the work sites. Makes repairs as necessary utilizing tools a variety of light and heavy equipment. May discuss, analyze and/or resolve simple citizen's complaints and/or problems associated with city infrastructure while in the field. Assists the Crew Leaders and Assistant Superintendent in inspecting work completed to ensure quality and completeness, and in overseeing the implementation of preventative maintenance program for all equipment. Complies with normal safety precautions to prevent injury or accidents to self and others.Assists in overseeing the safe operation and proper maintenance of division vehicles, light maintenance equipment, and heavy construction equipment. Provides back up support to Crew Leaders.Performs related duties as assigned. (Being a hands on leader) REQUIREMENTS: Three to five years of supervisory or related experience, High school diploma or equivalent, Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class D Water Distribution License, Class 1 Collection license. WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires heavy lifting (e.g., greater than 50 pounds) and extended period of sitting, walking, and standing. Position incumbent is constantly exposed to dirt, dust, noise, heat, cold and dampness and occasionally exposed to odors, fumes, and bad lighting. Job may require above-average agility and dexterity. Job may also require physical exertion for long periods of time. Mostly of workday is spent outside. Incumbent is exposed to all types of weather conditions. Position is considered Emergency Essential and will require 24 hour availability during emergency conditions.
