SUMMARY: Operates and maintains a variety of trucks and light equipment; clears road debris, participates in sign maintenance and repair, and maintains right-of-way, alley, and easement areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Operates, transports, and maintains various types of equipment including but not limited to backhoes, small trucks, tractor mowers, and other light motorized equipment.
- Maintains easements and right-of-ways; edges, mows, and trims vegetation and weeds; removes garbage and debris; levels unpaved surfaces and fills pot holes; re-posts traffic control devices and barriers.
- Performs cement and asphalt repairs including sealing cracks and pot holes; repairs and replaces broken or damaged signs; replaces and installs street reflectors, barriers, and advisory signs.
- Completes storm water ditch maintenance; inspects ditches; clears blockages and repairs or replaces structures; jets pipelines; clears grates; inspects illegal dumping and discharge to aid in pollution prevention.
- Participates in City-wide emergency response as necessary; clears debris from accidents and weather events; posts advisory and warning signs, conducts traffic control.
- Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of equipment operation and maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
- Equipment operation methods and techniques.
- Safety processes, procedures, and practices.
- Accessory applications and operations.
- Basic motorized equipment repair and preventative maintenance methods.
Skill in:
- Operating various types of equipment according to safety protocol.
- Working in various weather conditions.
- Following instructions.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Valid State Driver's License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
