About the Job
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Building Engineer at our Hyde Park Location. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Maintain and repair small moveable mechanical and electrical equipment. Manage and maintain departmental facilities drawings and project record documentation. Provide coordination support for utility shutdowns for UCM / BSD renovation and construction projects.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and maintain the shutdown schedules and documentation, ensuring timely completion of all tasks
- Coordinate with other Trades staff to identify methods and identify resources (personnel, equipment, and materials) required for utility shutdowns
- Performs preventative maintenance and corrective equipment maintenance on such item as wheelchairs, housekeeping equipment, transport equipment, and furnishings
- Maintain accurate records, including work orders, schedules, progress reports, and lessons learned, to enhance future outage planning and continuous improvement efforts
- Manage and maintain departmental facilities drawings and project record documentation including digitization (scanning) of archive documents and digital records for new projects
- Identify potential risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and the facility during shutdowns
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in facilities operations and maintenance
- Knowledge of small mechanical/electrical equipment
- Knowledge and understanding of maintenance workflow in various crafts
- Ability to work overtime and holidays as needed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job
- Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds

- Job Type/FTE: Full-time (1.0) ; 8-hour shifts
- Shift: Days, 6am - 2:30pm (Monday - Friday)
