About the Job
We are currently looking for an Epidemiologist for a 6-month contract position with the CDC. This position will work within the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. The professional will work closely with public health program professionals in various roles and to be involved in diverse activities,
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform data analyses on childhood blood lead surveillance data from multiple data sources and from childhood lead poisoning prevention projects.
- Assist in epidemiology and surveillance activities, which may include updating analytic findings, completing reports and graphs, and creating other visual displays of data.
- Draft reports and other documents for publication
- Present summaries of data and information to various audiences
- Identify “best practices”, strategies, methods and data analysis techniques.
- Work with CDC scientists and IT professionals to develop innovative methods of data analysis, data display, data integration, and improved interactivity across the Agency.
- Participate in a wide range of projects and activities across the Branch and Division to enhance skills and experience.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in public health (ideally with a concentration in epidemiology or environmental health), biostatistics, quantitative methods or closely related field.
- Experience in statistical data analysis and summarizing data
- Strong data analysis experience in R or SAS statistical software. Ability to clean data, merge datasets, calculate descriptive statistics, and create figures in either of these software packages.
- Some experience in designing and conducting scientific surveys or studies.
- Experience in reporting data in oral and written presentation format
- Some experience in data collection, data management and surveillance systems
- Some experience in database development and maintenance
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Familiarity with public health and science terminology, principles, methods, practices, and techniques
- Strong organizational skills and thorough attention to detail
