I. Job Summary
Supervises daily landfill operations and landfill staff. Conducts operation, maintenance, and monitoring activities at all assigned closed landfills in compliance with site permits and environmental regulations.This position is responsible for collecting and managing field monitoring data, operating and maintaining environmental remediation systems, supervising contractors, assisting with budget tracking and procurement, and acting as liaison to regulatory inspectors and other stakeholders. This is an on-site field position assigned to multiple sites in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Limited tasks may be assigned for sites beyond The Bay Area region.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
+ Supervises landfill staff and reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
+ Coordinates workflow and assignments toward the achievement of operational goals.
+ Supervises and monitors daily landfill operations, and reviews and controls implementation of safety regulations and company policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with environmental regulations and site permits.
+ Coordinates, and as needed will perform, repairs, maintenance, and inspections. of landfill systems required to maintain full operational functionality of these systems including leachate, landfill gas collection and flare infrastructure.
+ Collects daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual. Creates and submits records and reports.
+ Oversees personnel needs of the landfill including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
+ Develop and grow a solid working knowledge of all site-specific system operation and maintenance requirements including landfill gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems and controls, related SCADA systems, wastewater treatment systems and controls, groundwater and surface water control systems as well as other ancillary equipment and other site operation and maintenance requirements. Operate and maintain these systems in compliance with site permits and environmental regulations.
+ Review and understand site permits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting at each site.
+ Possess written and verbal communication skills and computer skills (e.g., MS office, particularly Excel) and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software. Including, but not limited to “App” based technologies to facilitate digital inspections, reporting and data/analytics. Some knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA and/or automation and control systems is beneficial.
+ Daily travel to sites from home or office, as required, for inspections and completing operation and maintenance and landfill supervisory tasks. Overnight stays may be required periodically.
+ Manage procurement of parts and supplies required for site operation. Assist Operations Manager with tracking project expenditures and budget compliance.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes:
Direct supervision of 1 full-time employees, including Technicians.

+ Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
+ Experience: 4 years of relevant work experience.

+ Equipment operating, health, safety and environmental regulations knowledge, and supervisory experience may be required.

The expected salary range for this position is $85k – $90k per year. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay.
