Miller Electric’s Power Systems Division, a part of ITW, is a leader in mobile power solutions for Work Truck Fleets and Construction Fabrication welding operations worldwide. Based in Appleton, WI, we provide innovative and reliable solutions that maximize customer ROI by meeting critical power needs across various industries.
Job DescriptionWe’re looking for a visionary Director of Engineering to lead the charge in product innovation, oversee our engineering and service team, and drive growth in new product development. Reporting to the Vice President - General Manager, this role is a cornerstone of our Divisional Leadership Team (DLT) and is pivotal to our success in creating customer-centric solutions that meet the evolving needs of our global markets. You’ll work in lockstep with our marketing leadership shaping product roadmaps, leveraging ITW's Innovation Framework and fostering a vibrant, growth-focused culture.
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of engineering innovation and influence across Miller and ITW’s Welding Segment, developing and steering the strategies that make us an industry leader. What You'll Do
- Lead Customer-Back Innovation (CBI): Drive the vision for an aggressive CBI strategy to deliver on ITW's growth goals. Collaborate with market experts to understand emerging trends and develop solutions with competitive differentiation.
- Oversee New Product Development & Pipeline: Establish a culture and processes that support a high-yield pipeline of best-in-class products. Ensure that new offerings meet customer needs and are well-positioned for growth in target markets.
- Strategic Functional Leadership: Guide a talented engineering and service teams, strategic oversight of project timelines, and continually enhance processes. You’ll develop and execute technology strategies and budgets while ensuring alignment with industry standards.
- Talent Cultivation: Build a strong talent pipeline by mentoring future leaders, offering stretch assignments, and supporting career growth within and beyond your team. Foster a culture of growth, career satisfaction, and continuous learning.
- Organizational Vision: Strategically assess and optimize engineering team structures to align with long-term and annual goals. Ensure the right talent is in place to drive key initiatives forward.

How to be successful in this role
- Customer-Centric Mindset: A drive to understand customer pain points and design highly differentiated solutions with strong value propositions.
- Strategic Business Acumen: Proven ability to develop strategies that enhance customer value and manage key financial metrics of the P&L, including project cost estimation and capital expenditure planning.
- Authentic Leadership & Talent Development: Demonstrated experience in talent development, performance management, and building high-functioning teams.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Skilled at fostering teamwork, coaching cross-departmental teams, and driving collaborative initiatives.
- Forward-Thinking Vision: Ability to anticipate industry trends and proactively shape strategies to maintain our leadership.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. An MBA or advanced engineering management degree is a bonus.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Technical Skills: High mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and product development.
- Talent Management: Strong experience in identifying, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering talent.
- Willingness to Travel: Up to 30%.
