Immediate Supervisor: Elementary Principal
Job Qualifications: Provisional or standard certificate for elementary school
guidance counselor
Specific Duties:
1. Conducts group guidance sessions monthly in individual classrooms.
2. Collaborates with intermediate teachers in an effort to eliminate hindrances to educational
growth.
3. Coordinates schedule to serve groups as well as one-on-one counseling sessions
with the principal.
4. Works in cooperation with the director to the Family Resource Center to help parents deal
with problems hindering the child’s educational growth. Consults with additional resource
people regarding the needs of students and families.
5. Prepares and implements a referral process for individual counseling.
6. Keeps principal informed by preparing a monthly summary of guidance activities.
7. Maintains and accepts a relationship with students, which respects their right to
confidentiality.
8. Encourages student self-evaluation and self-directives in the formulation of realistic goals.
9. Keeps records of this process and documents for verification.
10. Maintains students’ records and forms and handles communications regarding student files.
11. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the 504 policy and procedures for
the elementary school.
12. Interprets test data for all admissions and release committee meetings. Chairs and attends
all ARC meetings for speech. Responsible for administering achievement test and gathering
behavioral observations for special education referrals and reevaluations.
13. Develops a Program Service Plan (PSP) for all English Second Language (ESL) students and
communicates their progress annually with parents.
14. Serves as the Building Assessment Coordinator (BAC) for all state testing. Completes all the
BAC duties necessary to meet the requirements of state testing including conducting annual
staff training for proper test administration procedures.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
