Description:
We are seeking a Senior Electrical and Electronics Design Engineer to join our Embedded Electronics group. As a senior member of the technical staff, you will play a critical role in developing next-generation processing, computing, and sensor/actuator hardware within our electronics division.
Members of the Embedded Electronics group support a variety of multi-disciplinary programs, typically lasting 12 to 18 months. In addition to working on sponsored programs, you will be encouraged to develop and participate in internally funded research and development initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a team player with recent experience in designing sophisticated electronic systems using commercial off-the-shelf FPGAs, processors, or systems on a chip (SoCs). You should be able to quickly start on complex PCB designs, including digital electronics, sensor interfaces, and power distribution design, with minimal oversight.
This job will have the following responsibilities:- Translate project and system requirements into well-defined hardware architectures, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Design and complete instruments, including microprocessors, power, and analog components.
- Innovatively solve issues, drive project completion to schedule, and work collaboratively with other technical contributors.
- Build and test prototypes, debug, and prepare documentation for manufacturing and support.
- Research and enable innovative solutions for cutting-edge designs.
- Engage with other engineers and partners to develop reliable, cost-effective solutions for products.
- Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction, contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt to changes in requirements.
- Independently perform complex electronic architectures and designs.
- Provide insight and suggest design modifications based on simulation results.
- Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
- Manage tasks with multiple engineers and effectively communicate status to project leadership and customers.
- Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in electronic design, microprocessor, or embedded computing.
- Understanding of design and general computer architecture.
- Ability to write detailed design specifications.
- Computer programming and coding abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Thorough understanding of engineering theories and procedures.
- MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Experience leading teams of engineers with mixed skillsets and a background in developing new products/business.
- Experience and understanding of power integrity design and power conditioning circuitry for power rails typically used on digital PCB designs.
- Experience designing systems that use DDR3/4 memory, PCIe, and Gbit serial interfaces.
- Basic experience with microcontroller software (using C/C++/assembly) and FPGA firmware (VHDL or Verilog). Understanding of basic functionality and how circuit designs interface with software and firmware.
- Experience with design and simulation tools such as Siemens Designer and Layout, Hyperlinx, Ansys, Spice, and Matlab.
- Experience with miniature electronic packaging and design using bare die or chip-scale packages. Ability to understand and influence packaging design constraints and requirements for custom designs.
