The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to join our growing team and fill a full-time Electrician position in the Department of Maintenance. In this role the chosen candidate will be responsible for installing and repairing complex electrical control, wiring and lighting systems working from a technical blueprint. The chosen candidate must have experience in the field of electricity, working on simple and complex electrical systems including installing, maintaining/repairing electrical control, wiring and lighting systems, reading technical diagrams, blueprints, and performing general electrical maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Execute plans of electrical wiring for lighting, pumps, motors, receptacles, and other electrical systems.
- Install electrical apparatus, fixtures, equipment, and other systems.
- Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
- Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
- Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them.
- Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.
- Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices.
- Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, and fixtures.
- Perform circuit breaker corrective maintenance.
- Maintain good knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems.
- Follow National Electrical Code state and local building regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma in relevant vocational training and/or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical industry and/or full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Journeyman or Master Electrician license and/or electrical certification is preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified with increasing levels of responsibility
