About the Job
Who We Are:
The Sensor System and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Technology team is comprised of engineers, scientists, and technicians who develop sensor systems and inspection methodologies to assess the serviceability of a variety of structures from deep sea to deep space.
Objectives of this Role:
- Assist in research and development programs by leading experiments, analyzing data, and documenting the results.
- Design and develop signal and image processing algorithms for sensor data acquired from NDE sensors.
- Algorithm development using high level (e.g., Matlab or LabVIEW) programming languages.
- Operate industrial X-ray CT systems and analyze 3D data.
- Support the group by helping write proposals and technical reports in the fields of NDE and sensor system development.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Support section using digital signal processing techniques to analyze large data sets.
- Collaborate with senior staff to develop electromechanical inspection systems for NDE applications.
- Perform laboratory and field tests and system troubleshooting.
- Participate in the preparation of technical reports and proposals.
- Interact with customers individually and at conferences.
Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related engineering degree with related knowledge and/or experience. Candidates with advanced degrees (Masters or Doctoral) encouraged to apply.
- 0-5 years: Experience with data analysis using digital signal processing techniques and algorithms; Knowledge of at least one computer programming language and a willingness to learn others (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, or C++)
- Knowledge of fundamentals for circuit design, fabrication, and troubleshooting preferred; Familiarity with X-ray (or other) tomographic imaging techniques is a plus.
- Familiarity with sensor technologies, such as ultrasonics, radiography, or electromagnetics, is preferred; Familiarity with the field of nondestructive testing and its application in various industries is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with or without a team; Willingness to travel to support current clients and develop future work (<10% of year); Experience using laboratory test equipment, such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required.
