Summary:
Utility staff are responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and utensils through manual and machine cleaning methods. Additionally, utility staff are expected to keep the dishwashing and main kitchen area clean and safe. Assist in food preparation and serving; maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas under the supervision of the Dietary Director.
Environment:
Work will be performed primarily indoors at one of our long-term healthcare facilities, in the main kitchen, on tiled floors. Work will be performed there routinely around other co-workers, healthcare staff, residents, and guests. Due to the nature of facility’s business, worker may be exposed to occasional slippery floors, object on floors, chemicals, sharp objects, hazardous materials, and waste (including human), blood borne pathogens, and communicable diseases, as well as high-stress medical and/or life-threatening situations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Meet physical and sensory requirements stated below and be able to work in the described environment.
· Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.
· Scrape, rinse, and load dishes and utensils into dish machine.
· Wash and sanitize all pans utensils, and dishes.
· Clean, sanitize, and maintain dish machine.
· Unload dishes and utensils from dish machine and organize them properly, assuring they are properly dried.
· Empty trash containers regularly.
· Maintain a clean work area and kitchen by sweeping and mopping as needed.
· Perform additional cleaning duties as requested.
· Clean and maintain food prep stations and equipment as assigned.
· Help Dietary Aide position as needed.
· Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks as needed.
· Stock and store food items from deliveries, as assigned.
· Report hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents, and incidents, as necessary.
· Other special projects and duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED Preferred
- Previous food service aide experience is helpful
- Possess working knowledge of the methods and techniques of handling and serving food and sanitation practices relating to food handling
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
Preferred Skills: Dietary experience in a long-term care setting preferred, but not required.
