Position Summary
The Director of Mission Life leads the delivery of the Culture Project's mission and programs to middle- and high-school students throughout the United States. The primary focus of the Director's responsibilities is CP's Missionary staff – teams of 5-6 field missionaries located in the dioceses that CP serves: he/she leads the recruitment, selection, training, development, management, and retention of CP missionary staff. In addition, the Director manages CP's relations with its Diocesan and Church customers, and supports CP's expansion efforts into new Dioceses.
The Director of Mission Life must collaborate closely with CP's department leaders, especially Formation and HR. As a member of CP's leadership team, he/she contributes to the organization's strategic vision and ongoing operational management, and serve as a key collaborator and advisor to CP's CEO and Executive Director.
The Director of Mission Life will report to The Culture Project's Executive Director, and will directly manage a large organization, including:
He/she must be available to travel frequently to engage with CP's missionaries and diocesan partners in the field, and to assist with CP's annual training sessions in Latrobe, PA (June) and Long Island, NY (September). He/she will ideally be based near CP's headquarters in Philadelphia, or at minimum available to travel to Philadelphia frequently.

- CP's Missionary Recruitment Team.
- CP's diocesan schedulers.
He/she must be available to travel frequently to engage with CP's missionaries and diocesan partners in the field, and to assist with CP's annual training sessions in Latrobe, PA (June) and Long Island, NY (September). He/she will ideally be based near CP's headquarters in Philadelphia, or at minimum available to travel to Philadelphia frequently.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Consistent delivery of CP's in-school curriculum and discipleship across all schools and dioceses, by developing and implementing best-practices and operating processes with all Mission Teams.
- Effective supervision, guidance, and support to CP's Mission Teams, primarily through their Team Leaders.
- Development and care of all Team Leaders and Missionaries, leading to multi-year staff retention and leadership development.
- Collaboration with the CP Formation team to envision, design, and deliver effective training and formation for Missionary Staff and Team Leaders, specifically including New Staff Training (June/September) and year-long professional, spiritual, and personal formation programs.
- Performance assessment, management, and continual improvement for Missionaries and TL's.
- Recruitment of new missionaries, with sufficient quality and quantity to support CP's continued expansion to more diocese across the United States.
- Relationship management with CP's diocesan, school, and parish customers.
- In collaboration with CP Executives, expansion of the CP mission to new dioceses across the US.
Required
- Successful track record of:
- Leading a geographically-dispersed field organization.
- Supervising and developing a young, inexperienced field organization – preferably in the context of a Catholic missionary-based ministry.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, fully aligned with the Church's teachings on human life and sexuality.
- Commitment to frequent travel across the United States
Preferred
- Experience in a small non-profit organization
- Experience as a vendor/partner of Catholic dioceses (chancery and school system) and parishes (pastors, school principals, and teachers)
