Job Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Inpatient Services to lead and manage our nursing and nursing support services across multiple departments, including Nursing Administration, Float Pool, Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Medical-Surgical Units, and Telemetry. The Director will be responsible for overseeing care delivery initiatives that impact safety, quality, patient service, staffing, recruitment, retention, and cost-effectiveness. This position reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and provides essential support in ensuring consistency in the standard of nursing practice across all clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight to nursing departments through effective engagement with nursing leaders.
- Coordinate, develop, deliver, and evaluate patient care to ensure high standards are met.
- Champion Quality, Safety, and Service initiatives across nursing operations.
- Oversee clinical and operational aspects of nursing, focusing on scheduling, staffing, skill mix, and care delivery systems.
- Achieve and maintain targets in Quality, Safety, Service, People, Financial, and Growth metrics.
- Collaborate with the CNO to direct hospital nursing services, including the delivery of care, development of guidelines, and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Ensure that patient care delivery models and staffing standards align with professional standards and the organization's mission, vision, and values.
- Identify, recommend, and implement performance and quality improvement activities for nursing departments.
- Support nursing in achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance and provide internal consulting for leadership development.
- Partner with Human Resources to recruit, retain, and develop nursing staff.
- Collaborate with department leaders on care or practice issues, and contribute to the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines.
- Serve as a resource for compliance with external governing and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in research and medical staff and hospital quality committees, making valuable contributions.
- Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring a good working relationship with staff and medical personnel.
- Take on additional responsibilities in the absence of the CNO.
Supervision Exercised:
- Oversee department/function leaders, coordinators, managers, directors, and the Staffing Coordinator.
Internal and External Interactions:
- Engage daily with hospital leadership, medical staff, clinical staff, patients, families, and visitors.
- Interact with external stakeholders, including patients, visitors, physicians, staff, vendors, nursing colleges, and other professional and community contacts.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of clinical experience in an acute care facility
- BSN, MSN, MHA, MBA preferred
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois.
- BLS, ACLS
- Proven track record in managing multiple departments and leading care delivery initiatives.
- Strong skills in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and team development.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.
