JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, evaluate, supervise, direct and take part in the operations of the facilities Environment Services; to assure the quality of housekeeping and laundry services provided on a daily basis; to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all residents of the facility; to assure that the Environmental Services department is operated in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner, in accordance with the facilities established policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, and the directions of your supervisors, who include the Administrator, Assistant Administrator and other members of the facilities management to whom such persons report; to do all things required of a Housekeeping Supervisor, and to implement the housekeeping and laundry policies established by, and to assist in providing housekeeping and laundry services, in this facility in order to assure the highest level of EVS services is maintained at all times.
As the Director of Environmental Services, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Support the facility’s philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives.
- Develop job descriptions and orientation checklist for the EVS department which are submitted to the Administrator for approval.
- Update and correct personnel policies pertaining to the EVS staff and submit to the Administrator for approval.
- Obtain staff by recruiting, interviewing, and verifying references in order to employ the number and kinds of personnel needed.
- Decide and propose the staffing needs and organization of the EVS department and submit to the Administrator for approval.
- Supervise scheduling of sufficient staff to ensure uninterrupted service to the facility and residents at all times.
- Ascertain that each employee in the EVS department is aware of the lines of authority and exercise disciplinary action or termination when necessary and provide appropriate documentation in the employee’s personnel record.
- Supervise the new employee orientation process including the explanation of personnel policies and individual duties.
- Schedule and direct the EVS staff through training and in-servicing.
- Check the time cards of all EVS staff for verification of accuracy and return them to the Human Resources Coordinator for payroll processing.
- Supervise purchasing, storage, and distribution of all EVS supplies.
- Maintain inventory of all facility linen in order to provide a continuous supply to the staff and residents.
- Supervise staff in order to ensure orderly:
- Proper handling of isolation linen and clothing;
- Laundering and drying of all delivered linen and clothing;
- Proper distribution of clean clothing to residents;
- Proper distribution of bed linen and towels on all wings;
- To ensure continuous service to the residents;
- Serve on facility performance improvement projects in accordance with JCAHO guidelines.
- Keep up-to-date records of MSDS sheets and provide accessibility to them to all employees.
- Supervise the disposal of bio-hazardous waste in accordance with regulatory procedures.
- Maintain all EVS equipment in operating condition.
- Assist with supervision of all construction, renovation, and remodeling in the building.
- Assist with supervision of repairs and routine maintenance of the building and all the departmental equipment.
- Schedule periodic fire, disaster, and evacuation drills for all shifts and document the results:
- Fire – Four (4) annually per shift;
- Disaster and Evacuation – Four (4) annually per shift.
- Serve on facility Safety committee and performance improvement projects in accordance with JCAHO guidelines.
- In-service other departments as to safety and biohazard procedures.
- Keep up-to-date records of MSDS sheets and provide accessibility to them to all employees.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of any changes in JCAHO, Federal, and State regulations, modify department policies to assure compliance, and in-service all effected personnel accordingly.
- Prepare a plan of correction as required by State and Federal surveys and submit them to the Administrator for approval.
- Implement any plan of correction as required by State and Federal surveys in the EVS department.
- Furnish information regarding residents only to authorized agencies or people.
- Follow established fire, disaster, and evacuation policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess, as a minimum, an eighth-grade education.
- Must have experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or a similar type of health care facility, or equivalent experience or training.
- Must have experience in institutional EVS practices and procedures, including the use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Must demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
- Must demonstrate the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and their representatives, outside health care professionals, vendors, support agencies and the general public.
- Knowledge of relevant JCAHO, OBRA, OSHA, LSC, IDPH, and IDPA regulations.
- Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must demonstrate leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
