Job Title: Director of Counseling
Reports To: Chief Program Officer
Job Summary:
The Director of Counseling is a leadership role focused on overseeing the clinical and administrative functions of the counseling department. This position is responsible for providing supervision, fostering community partnerships, managing program goals, and coordinating outreach initiatives. The Director of Counseling will collaborate with other departments and act as an advisor on domestic violence, mental health and cultural awareness as well as all agency-wide initiatives. They will play a critical role in enhancing services for survivors of domestic violence through dedicated program development, supervision, and partnership-building.
Key Responsibilities:
Professional Leadership, Clinical Supervision and Training
· Provide individual and group clinical supervision to associates, interns, and counseling staff, ensuring quality and ethical standards in therapeutic services.
· Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of interns, trainees, and counseling staff.
· Serve as a liaison to area university graduate programs to foster relationships and ensure a strong pipeline of interns and trainees.
· Serve as the primary contact on call for emergencies requiring consultation related to suicide, homicide, child abuse, or other critical incidents, ensuring timely and effective intervention.
· Support staff in delivering services that honor diverse cultural perspectives, lived experiences, children impacted by violence, and the unique needs of domestic violence survivors.
· Actively serve as an ethical leader providing support, program collaboration, and new initiatives with the other members of the leadership team.
Program and Event Management
· Develop, implement, and monitor program goals for the counseling department in alignment with agency objectives.
· Plan and coordinate mental health awareness and community outreach events, focusing on increasing access to mental health services and supporting family and community connections.
· Oversee and support advocates and program coordinators, ensuring comprehensive services for domestic violence survivors.
· Ensure that all program reporting requirements including billing, grant/agency reports,
· Act as an advisor for the Cultural Awareness Committee and participate in other agency committees as needed to promote a culturally informed, inclusive, and responsive environment.
Community Outreach and Partnership Development
· Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations and agencies, including the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, to promote mental health awareness and address intersecting social issues.
· Represent the agency in community forums, outreach events, and collaborative initiatives to build strong networks and expand program reach.
Qualifications:
· Must be fully licensed at the highest level in the state of California (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) and must remain in compliance with all Board of Behavioral Sciences legal requirements.
· Minimum of two years of experience providing clinical supervision to counseling associates and interns
· Proven program management experience, including goal setting, event coordination, and evaluation.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in crisis intervention.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $92,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
