The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Business Operations supporting our National Center office that is located in Dallas, TX. This role can be home based.
The Director of Business Operations is responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective project management framework for the Quality, Outcomes, Research & Analytics, and Clinical Research departments. Key responsibilities include managing the master project list, overseeing resource and staff allocation, and ensuring cross-functional coordination and alignment across teams and departments. This role also involves developing and refining standardized processes to enhance efficiency and consistency. The Director will implement innovative strategies for tracking, reporting, and improving accountability, visibility, and transparency in departmental projects and strategic activities. They will identify opportunities for roll-up reporting to improve oversight of cross-functional and interdependent activities and oversee the creation and maintenance of an external collaboration and relationship map, including objectives and health indicators.

Responsibilities:- Facilitate and manage the departmental project management framework and collaborate with project leads to ensure accuracy. Maintain master list of historical and active projects. Develops, tracks, and reports on standard measures of success for project management.
- Oversee development and implementation of staffing allocation management, vendor contract and invoice tracking, and relationship tracking to maintain compliance and alert staff when action is needed. In conjunction with compliance coordinator, coordinate regular audit and risk management activities by providing oversight and guidance to team.
- Provide project management support and strategic reporting and analyses to leadership and managers. Implement standardized procedures and processes to scale operations and maximize efficiency across multiple project teams. Foster cross-functional communication and collaboration to ensure alignment, transparency, and accountability across teams
- Perform financial modeling and analysis for projects and products. Assist in oversight and reporting of funds assigned or received from restricted sources.
- Manage the operations project support team to ensure responsibilities are timely and accurately performed, including data audits, compliance monitoring, and proactive identification of required actions and decisions.
- Identify data needs and requirements to provide analysis of department project activities and measure results. Develop continuous process improvement strategies to maximize project efficiency.
- Provide input and facilitation of short and long-term department planning and strategy. Track progress to strategic business plan and ensure ongoing alignment with long-term department goals.
- Provide regular updates to department or departmental project policies and procedures, working in coordination with project owners. Facilitate identification of end of life or newly needed policies, templates, and SOPs. Collaborates across the department on training to promote awareness of relevant policies to staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant experience
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain effective project management frameworks, including master project lists, resource allocation, and cross-functional coordination. Experienced in identifying opportunities for scalability and efficiency across projects and operational workflows
- Skilled in financial modeling, ROI analysis, sustainability assessments, and revenue scenario planning for projects and products
- Strong ability to evaluate data, develop metrics, and measure project results for informed decision-making and continuous improvement
- Knowledge of audit and compliance frameworks, including vendor contract and relationship management. Adept at coordinating risk management activities and maintaining adherence to policies and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build partnerships and facilitate open dialogue across teams
- Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments with the ability to anticipate and manage change effectively. Agile problem-solver who can quickly shift strategies and manage ambiguity
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
Ability to travel 10% of the time per year
The expected pay range will be $100,000 to $110,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
