The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. The high school currently educates students in grades nine through twelve and assists students in the following:
- Developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their community.
- Contributing to the community through student research, service, and leadership
- Improving teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leaders.
- Upholding the 4 core values of Scholarship, Leadership, Excellence and Grit.
Director of Alumni Affairs and Support Position Overview:
The Director of Alumni Affairs and Support is responsible for providing support for all graduates of the University of Chicago Charter School campuses. S/he will create, coordinate, and maintain an active social network with Charter School alumni. In addition, the Director of Alumni Affairs and Support will assist campus leadership, teachers, and parents in supporting our alumni past high school graduation. S/he will make visits to the colleges that our alumni are attending and communicate with graduates to ensure that they have the support and resources needed to succeed in college and beyond. The Director of Alumni Affairs and Support will report to the Senior Director of the College Graduation Office. This is a 12-month position.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Develops strong relationships with University of Chicago Charter School alumni students and their families to empower student success in college.
- Organize events for UChicago Charter School alumni to connect with each other and with current Charter School students. Events will be held both at their respective college campuses and at the Charter campuses.
- Implement plans for alumni to stay informed of their needs, academic successes, and success requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies to support students who are meeting/not meeting standards to the next period of performance during the academic year.
- Work with the Senior Director of the College Graduation Office to develop strategies to establish best practices in raising college student achievement.
- Develop tools to collect, analyze and interpret college success data, as well as utilize Naviance data to help inform alumni strategy and practice.
- Develop and Manage community-based partnerships (Utmost U, OneGoal, etc.) that provide alumni support to UChicago Charter alumni to ensure college completion.
- Collaborate with UChicago To&Through Project and other UChicago initiatives around college enrollment data, research, professional development and college enrollment strategies.
- Serve as a liaison between CPS the Office of College and Career Success around persistence strategies and supports, LPS and postsecondary transition.
- Provide professional development to CGO, teachers, counselors around alumni data, research and practice.
- Implement relevant College Transition Seminar curriculum to graduating seniors and manage and conduct senior exit interview strategy.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and interact well with students, teachers and parents.
- Ability to travel on a monthly/semi-monthly basis at approximately 35% of the time.
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must be an effective and consistent communicator
- Experience in event planning/social services preferred
- Must have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to build student teams and collaborations
- Must have outstanding multi-tasking skills
