Who We Are:
Terns Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a portfolio of small-molecule product candidates to address serious diseases, including oncology and obesity. Terns’ pipeline comprises multiple clinical stage development programs including TERN-701, an allosteric BCR-ABL inhibitor for CML, and TERN-601, a small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist for obesity.
Who We Are Looking For:
The Director, Marketing & New Product Planning, Oncology will be Terns’ first dedicated commercial hire, and a key member of Terns’ business and strategy team, reporting to the Chief Business Officer. This will be a hands-on role, responsible for leading new product and commercial planning and strategy for our lead oncology asset, TERN-701.
This role will be responsible for the planning, implementation and management of TERN-701 commercial strategy providing insights and guidance across all stages of TERN-701 development through pivotal study planning and NDA/launch. This leader will partner with cross-functional groups to develop and execute market research, and compile and synthesize analytics and insights to optimize TERN-701 clinical development and launch planning.
S/he will deliver insights and recommendations to the Terns leadership team and broader organization. This individual will focus on inline new product planning and commercial strategy for TERN-701, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term growth strategies, development pipeline, and corporate objectives. The successful candidate will have a deep background in oncology marketing and commercial planning, ideally spanning both hematologic malignancies and solid tumors.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead commercial planning for TERN-701 and ensure alignment of clinical study designs with target product profile (TPP) and commercial objectives.
- Conduct market research to gain a clear understanding of current and future unmet needs and market dynamics.
- In collaboration with cross-functional team members, develop and refine TERN-701 TPP based upon in-depth reviews of unmet needs and value drivers.
- Develop and pressure test revenue forecast for TERN-701, assessing treatment pathway(s), market size, patient segmentation, product penetration in different lines, pricing and market access considerations, and evolving competitive landscape.
- Develop TERN-701 product positioning and messaging based on market insights and competitive landscape.
- Attend key medical congresses, engage with external experts and stakeholders in the clinical and research fields to gather, synthesize and share deep insights.
- Conduct regular analysis of industry trends, competitive threats, expansion opportunities and portfolio performance to inform TERN-701 strategy.
- Serve as strategy and commercial representative on multiple program strategy and cross-functional project teams to frame and assess development options, risk, and key decision points.
- In collaboration with corporate strategy / business development, lead commercial analysis to support identification and implementation of new growth initiatives that build a sustainable competitive advantage.
What You’ll Bring to Our Team:
The Director, New Product Planning, Oncology will be a highly accomplished individual with a demonstrated strong track record in leading marketing and commercial planning through launch. s/he will have a mix of the following personal and professional characteristics:
- BA/BS in a scientific, engineering, financial, business or other relevant field. MBA, MS or PhD preferred.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in new product / commercial planning, in line marketing and launch planning including development and implementation of cross-functional launch playbooks and roadmaps.
- Deep knowledge and experience working in oncology.
- Expert knowledge of the pharmaceutical / biotech landscape, R&D trends, business strategy and commercial considerations across markets in major disease areas with significant experience in commercial roles.
- Understanding of the qualitative and quantitative aspects of commercial opportunities and challenges including analog analysis, identification of risks and prospects and tying these to strategic recommendations.

Communication and Influence – Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively present ideas, influence senior leaders, and build strong relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Entrepreneurial Mindset and Execution – A proactive approach to driving strategic initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to independently manage priorities, execute plans, and deliver results under minimal supervision.
Compensation:
The expected base pay for this full-time exempt position is $228 – 258K + bonus + equity + benefits. At Terns, our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The ranges are subject to change and individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including location, skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
