Responsibilities:Job Summary
The Director of Language and Cultural Services is responsible and accountable for leading the language and cultural patient support team and managing the technology required for interpreter related services for the enterprise. Responsibilities include managing interpretive and translation services; process oversight for interpreter requests with contracted agencies and resolving issues with agencies; overseeing interpretive equipment requests, inventory, upgrades, and repairs. Oversees requests for translation and interpretive services for employee documents and events as needed. Collaborates with Chief Compliance Officer and supports 1557 coordination requirements for the enterprise's responsibilities under section 1557 and the American's with Disabilities Act.
- Oversees departmental operations. Supervises department manager in the performance of their assigned duties. Participates in and makes decisions with regard to the interviewing and hiring of staff. Assigns and directs duties of staff. Is responsible to ensure that work of subordinate staff is done appropriately according to departmental standards and administers redirection or disciplinary action as necessary. Participates, observes, and documents performance and compliance with established standards in the performance appraisal process. Participates in both short-term and long-term staffing determinations. Manages higher-level disciplinary process and development of related Performance Improvement Plans. Provides input in to and may participate in termination process. Reviews patient/customer/employee complaints for issues and identifies trends. Investigates further as appropriate and/or reports to the senior director, often providing recommended resolution. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit-specific programs, which are designed to maintain staff skill levels. Supports and facilities staff involvement in programs, committees, and encourages staff to promote a professional environment.
- Coordinates, monitors, and ensures compliance with 1557 coordinator requirements by participating in the review of grievances, assisting with the workflows associated with recordkeeping requirements, directing the department’s language access procedures, implements & monitors operational workflows associated with effective communication requirements and requests for reasonable modifications.
- Continually assess department and enterprise vulnerabilities. Develops recommendation and implements operational change to ensure ongoing compliance with section 1557 and the Americans with Disabilities Acts to ensure enterprise is poised for successful support of vulnerable individuals. Collaborates with stakeholders across the continuum for implementation of language access requirements.
- Continually assess and revise departmental policies, modifications, and assists the Chief compliance officer with ensuring enterprise compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees enterprise educational requirements for LEP and disabled individual as it relates to ensuring effective communication, reasonable modifications, workflow aspects of accessing language support and documentation requirements of these requests. Assesses efficacy of current education and implement operational and educational improvements for ongoing management of language and communication access.
- Manages and maintains contracts and contracted vendor for both interpretation and translation services. Ensure highest quality of service delivery, support complaint investigation and ongoing improvement in service delivery.
- Oversees the process for ordering and managing interpreter equipment for all areas serviced by the organization; tracking inventory of equipment and manages requests for repairs. Develops education on use of equipment and assists with troubleshooting issues. Collaborates with fields services for deployment of technology resources in both the ambulatory and acute care setting.
- Stays abreast of ongoing state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines though participation in ongoing educational and professional development opportunities.
