Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Global Marketing - Coatings in our $350 Million+ Coatings business within the Specialty Additives business unit. This will be a hybrid position based in Wilmington, DE location for in-office hours or at one of our other key Coatings global laboratory hubs including Schaffhausen or Zwijndrecht. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and commercial function. This position will report to the VP and GM, Coatings.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serve as a key member of the Coatings senior leadership team and share responsibility for business line-wide priorities.
- Identify, develop, and drive key strategic initiatives to enable sustainable, profitable growth for the coatings market segments, including both architectural and industrial coatings segments.
- Develop, update, and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to increase revenues and profits. Own and lead Coatings medium / long-term strategic agenda.
- Develop & monitor KPI’s to determine the effectiveness of strategic actions.
- Identify and assess potential business opportunities utilizing market research, business intelligence, competitive & scientific analysis, and pursue/maximize opportunities with the end goal of growing revenue and increasing profitability and market
- Identify, recommend, and coordinate merger & acquisitions targets and coordinate the integration of new acquisitions into the existing portfolio.
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of global and regional marketing managers covering architectural and industrial coatings market segments.
- Partner with global R&D to lead on-going assessment of our existing portfolio and define product innovation plan to address gaps to meet short term needs as well as develop the appropriate product portfolio aligned with the business unit strategy for coatings market segments.
- Partner with global R&D and Regional Sales Leads to lead the annual New Product Introduction (NPI) FY business target process to define a FY NPI target based on product, region, customer, and financial target details.
- Partner with Regional Sales Leaders across North America, Latin America, EU, MEAI and Asia regions to maximize FY P&L and deliver on sustainable, profitable growth targets.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with major customers.
- Collaborate and develop strong relationships with human resources, finance, and other center-led functions to ensure effective partnerships and alignment.
- Evaluate and ensure the organization has the competencies and structure required to implement the long-term strategy to ensure strong alignment between services and product offerings, market segments and customer-specific needs.
- Drive accountability for the selection and development of talent and succession within the organization to ensure an effective, sustainable model and talent pipeline.
- Position will be expected to actively engage the organization and travel locally, regionally, and internationally as required to support the organization, collaborate with internal partners, and serve customers.
- Scheduled domestic and international travel - up to 40%
To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years’ experience working in the coatings industry, leading global teams and prior performance of delivering on step-change growth initiatives.
- In-depth knowledge of coating additives for dispersants, foam control, surfactants-wetting agents and / or pH neutralizers applications is highly desirable.
- Ability & desire to function at both strategic and tactical levels.
- Strong influencing capabilities, leadership accountability, process discipline and rigor
- Experience building and managing cross-functional teams and working collaboratively, cross-functionally, and globally.
- Strategic & analytical thinking skills, pleasant and engaging style, and executive presence.
- Strong sense of urgency / results focused mindset.
- Facilitator of change / willing to challenge the status quo.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- An advanced degree, preferably an MBA, is preferred.
